It puzzels me as to when this would have been done, practice was in the afternoon wasn't it? The teams seem to have the lid off those big air box's all the time so when did it happen
Surely not in broad daylight |

Pretty bold claims, if its true it is a major worry for the catagory. Increased security would be the only solution.

Unfortunately, incidents like this are the by-product of the "tribal" thing so loved by AVESCO & TC. It was just a matter of time before some one-eyed knuckle-dragger decided to "help".
Security increases is the only way to put an end to this mindless behaviour, as you say.. |

Gee, there are a couple of things here that don't gel with me. Firstly, if you have anything foreign in a cylinder it makes a HELL of a noise. Really, really loud.
But maybe, just maybe, whoever either built or installed the engine left the bag of new bits behind. Techo, you are spot on - I remember a Formula Vee engine being started with rag still in the ports - filled the garage with 'snow' and the brand-new engine had to come straight back out. But the sabotage accusations remind me of the 70s and 80s - valve grind paste in the Dolomites' oil and aluminium filings in the BMW's fuel. PWR admit they didn't lock the cars away - could well be some 'smartie's' idea of a joke. But those air boxes can be mongrels to get on and off, which is another thing wrong with this story. At least we have something to talk about at the pub that's not just 'is it worse to have a big nose or be bald?' Bruce Moxon |

The nuts/bolts etc were of sizes and dimensions that were in direct contrast to compontry used by the team for building engines, and anything associated for that matter. There was alledgely plastic on the outside of the trumpets and the shrapnel was only discovered later when one of the mechanics pulled a plug out to check a piston. Then there was the steering abnormalities with the Weel car.

This is what has been reported, anyone see the bits ?
If this was sabotage, then the lid of the air box must have being removed... how else would it have passed the filter.. BIG CALL to point fingers when really you should lock your house when leaving. As well as notice if it has been broken into, & check for whats been taken... Dunno !!! |

I've kept my mouth shut on this one until I learnt more about it. Having now read a few press releases on this matter, I'd like to have my say.
Kees Wheel says he didn't bring in the Police as he didn't want them interfering with the teams preperation for the races. Fair call Kees. The races are now over-CALL THE POLICE IN KEES, and let's find out who is guilty of what. |

They are silly for not securing the cars in the transporter. I have said to people in the Formula Ford paddock enough times that leaving their cars out in the open invites people to come a hunting for a peek at settings, or indeed an opportunity for others to adjust things they shouldnt in the dark.....
If you want to leave your $400,000 toy outside for any little boy or girl to play with, then be prepared to suffer the consequences.... |

Even if it is not parts used in an engine build, surely it is possible that they are used elsewhere, such as attaching panels, etc.
Anyone know if a mechanic at PWR has been sacked/left recently? |

The was a mass sabotage at Surfers one year, most of the HQ's had the fuel pipe crushed with sidecutters. A couple of cars had the brake pipes cut as well!

It's all a little too the cow jumped over the moon to me. Nascar have there cars side by side no walls no secrets the only thing other teams don't see is what is in the engine then if you win they do get to see. If you are going to do that to someones car you would do it so they didn't no you had IE dope there fuel.

About 15 yrs ago at Bathurst , the JPS BMW team claimed they were sabotaged by someone putting sand or iron filings in their fuel rigs.
