Move over Max, I can do better

Well, I cant really, but there are a few changes I would like to make.

Although initially in favour of the new qualifying format, I'd like to make some adjustments. I would like to ban refuelling totally, but if I cant have that, the following will be fine.

Friday

08:30 - 12:30 : Free Testing #

13:30-14:30 : Practice 1

15:30 - 16:30 : Superpole *

Saturday

09:45 - 10:30 Practice 2

12:00 - 13:00 Practice 3

15:30 - 16:00 Top 6 shootout @

Sunday

09:00 - 09:45 Warm up

02:00 Grand Prix

# : Teams that take this up limited to 15 testing sessions during season

* : As it is now, low fuel - flat out - ths will decide who gets into top 6 and the gris from 4th row back

@ : Top 6 do it all again, one last crack at pole

Personally, I like one lap qualifying, it adds another skill the drivers must master, and any X factor (that is'nt manuipluated) only makes the racing more interesting.

There's many different groups to please...

I think the current format is great for TV, but **** for those attending the race... a tumbleweed could roll through the track on Sunday morning at events without propers support races.

I have a different idea for qualifying. I think that on friday, it should be the same as it is now, except each person gets 2 flying laps and if you don't like them, you have the option for going out again at the end of the session for one flying lap, however if that lap is slower, too bad. Saturday however is what I would really change. As each running spot comes up, The person who has the fastest rtime from friday has the opportunity to take it, they can either take it or pass, then the second place driver has the option to run or pass, then so on down the list.

Basically make qualifying on friday worht something more than simply being stuck going last in case of rain. I should also mention that you cannot touch the car after the commencment of saturday qualifying, no changes to tire pressures wings or fuel strategy, you can pull the car to the grid and then start it at the appropriate time thats it, changes lose you a lap, not a start from pitlane.

The more I think about Wrex's scheme, the better I like it. The Top 6 Shootout is really appealing. I suggest running it on a three laps combined basis like the Indianapolis qualifying. Adds to the suspense. It is also a pretty neat solution to the testing problem.

good idea, especially about the top 6 shoot-out.
would give the specators another chance to see the top drivers who pull in most of the cash.

The problem is Wrex that I have already earmarked myself to be the head of the FIA. Therefore, all your suggestions will have to go via ME.

I like them! You have my permission to instigate them starting next season.

Wow! What a conincedence Suzy, I have myself earmarked for Bernies's job. I have no doubt we will work well together. A Michael and Mika fan, who'd have thought?

Only if I can have Bernie's salary to go with Max's job!

Anyway, I like both Mika and Michael (but I like Mika best of all).

No way, thats why I want Bernies Job.

As for Mika/Michael, same in reverse.

Truth is, these decisions have factors we never consider (or in some cases) or care about, ie costs. While I'm a traditionalist at heart, today we need some changes that maintain manufacturer interest (technolgy), entertainment (increased X-factors) and reduce expenditure.

So rewarding the limited testing further is a good thing, and having qualifying after only 1 hour at the track will reward the teams and drivers that can 'dial it in' quicker than others. The top 6 shoot-out is just for entertainment, but will give a driver that lost a couple of tenths in Superpole another chance, without the risk of falling off the front 3 rows. Without race fuel, it really will be a straight battle as well.

Omega99 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The only problem I see with the "top six shooutout" idea is how the parc ferme would factor in. The drivers who didn't get in would lose the extra chance at tweeking their setup in the final qualifying, further increasing the disparity on race day. On the other hand, they would be able to setup their car however they wanted for race day without worrying about how the final qualifying would affect their fuel situation.

Omega99, this would'nt be a problem, as there are no Parc Ferme rules. Qualifying and race would be seperate again
