Scott Speed
Looking for a little info as I am a newbe to this series. Quick question, was Scott Speed really that slow or did he run into any issues. Last place during both races doesn't look very good.

I think he ended both races in the pit lane with mechanical troubles, he certainly wasn't lapped. Was rather disappointed in him though he struggled throughtout the weekend outside the top 20 and considering he won this opportunity beating off several other very competent drivers I expected better. I know he suffered an injury which restricted his early testing but he has had plenty of chance since and considering he is driving for ADR i expected him ti at least make the top 15. Has a website for info think it's just scottspeed.com

Isn't he suffering from a broken finger or two at the moment?

He did suffer an injury to his hand yeah but I'm not so sure that he hasn't fully recovered. I certainly didn't see any strapping or owt on his hand when he was walking down for the first race

Speed and Power are both highly over-rated in my opinion.
Especially seeing as Speed is with a championship winning team, and has supposedly been picked as the cream of the crop from the US. Red Bull must be wishing they'd gone with Antinucci - even if he loses it in the race he provides action, and gets his name mentioned - and has the potential to win races. Speed just limps around in the 20s. And as for Power. Last edited by sgrok; 7 Apr 2003 at 10:59. |

How much of Will Power's career have you actually seen, sgrok?

I've seen Jamie Green win his first two f3 races from pole. That's talent.
Please explain to me why Power is so highly rated? |

If these guys had 'normal' names then we'd probably take no notice of them...

sgrok, I think you can't analyse a driver with only ONE race, and if he is running with a different car (not the best) and in a circuit that he doesn't know. And you can't compare it with a driver who is running in a top team.
Don't forget that this are cars races, the driver is only the 20% or less. |

I don't get the hype about Antinucci either. He shows the propensities for being a stunt driver, however.
The whole Red Bull thing was a bit iffy, tho'; many of the better drivers (e.g. AJ Allmedinger) were overlooked. And there were queries about the restrictive nature of the contract the 'hopefuls' were expected to sign. And Mr and Mrs Power are either very sick or very sad. (Anyone remember Will Powers? 'Kissing With Confidence'?) |

Considering both Speed & Powers were far down the order, I see it as a set-up problem more then a driver problem. Both did a lot better in pre-season testing & Speed is the real deal. Let's just wait till & see what happens the next few rounds....

Agreed. Being from the US I was very suprised at the Red Bull Selections as Speed needed more time in some of the developmental series here. There is a reasonable pool of talent that I beleive had been over looked.

Next couple of races will tell the truth. He won't finish the season with these type of results. Many racers are spoon fed there careers, difference being can they perform at the higher levels. Daddy's money can only take them so far.

i was near him on the grid for the second race and amougst the scholoship cars. its a shame that a good car and a really good team has to be at the back. there are no excuses.. what was his problems that made him come though the pits in each race.

DADDY'S MONEY!!??
Are you kidding? Do you know Mike Speed (Scott's dad)? He is a very good guy who has given his sons every opportunity in the American karting world, but...rich... I don't think so. I hope you are talking about Powers. I don't know him, or anything about him. Scott was untouchable in a shifter kart. Give him some time. Is he ready for the big leagues? Who knows? But let's give him an opportunity and see how it goes. It’s not the first time a karting champ has been given a good ride. |

Sorry, was referring to the comment about being spoon fed and many drivers as a whole, not a direct comment as to Speed.

Why doesn't the hype machine get behind British drivers who get over looked instead of an Aussie and a Yank who are both, as far as I can see, ****. Sorry. |
