Not as much as you might think.

Compare it to Lowndes instead of Murph, and it might be a little different.

i think he is trying to avoid good "established driver and good established team" combination in his scenario, prefers struggling/new in either the driver or team...

no idea sorry...

You'd be surprised... sure, there's some serious salary differences, but then add in bonuses from the relevant manufacturer for winning a round or putting the car on pole, your own sponsorship earnings, appearance fees... now THAT'S when the gap really widens, not just between the high-profile guys like Lowndes and Skaife compared with the rookies, but the guys who are at the front of the pack compared with those who aren't.

To maximise your earning potential in the V8s you have to do three things:
1. Be marketable - not controversial.
2. Be intelligent - know what you can do to make yourself more bankable.
3. Be fast.

Do those, and you'll be raking it in.

I always thought that the salary depended on what team you went to... like what i mean is a small team wouldnt be able to pay their driver much would they?

another thing, do the drivers that pay for their drives get paid themselves?

sponsers is the main one behind your $$$ sometimes and average dude can get a fair wack ofdoe if he has a few good sponsers behind hime, Murph for one has a fair few NZ sponsers which is sure to gain him a few extra bucks.
