Rs200 Bodywork

Over the years we saw a varity of changes to the bodywork of the RS200 as it was developed especially in the rear spoiler region. Can you remember them all and who drove what and what was the best? It's even happening to this day with Pat Doran. I think Pekka Rantanen has the madest RS500 style extender on top the main wing!

Discuss..

The sexiest RS200 was the one Rennison had, with the narrow sleek version of it......as in the one he used in 1987 grand prix. Then he swapped to no wing. I think it may have had something to do with the regs...as rennison had three configurations it could be run in.

Then there was a no wing wide front version what rennison had in 1987 TVS and Rantanen had that year.

I belive the EVO (end of 1988 which Palmer gave debut to in the GP )was the version Schanche had then Doran and crew followed, that was the wingless version.

The wing Doran has and the splitter on the front is off a Formula 1 car. That is what the FIA banned in 1996.

So here we have a run down:

Rennision had a narrow front and sleek narrow rear wing (arch) as well as a Rantanen monster

Schanche never had a wing

Holm had no wing and then Iverson tank wing....which them become a sleek arch!

Doran never had a wing until 2001.

Iverson had a home brew

Rantanen had the big bruttle one then converted to a Rennison type

Baker, Dan Anderson, Hopkins, Benght Wikland, Tore H bratlie, Stig Blmoqvist, Michael Norstrom and Rolf Nillson had no wing.

Wasn't the "Full Monty" kit that Iversen used to run (and Pekka Rantenen as well?) actually the Pikes Peak kit?

Strange the RS200 spouted wings, where as the 6R4`s lost their front wings. I don`t remember Gollops front wing staying on for long, just while the car was white, and then maybe while it was red and blue. (They also lost those intakes on the doors)

I always thought the Seppo wing on the escort xtrac was really impressive, while the schanche version didn`t run with any, and John Welch had that neat lip on the roof.

I think that was the problem- getting them to stay on- the front wing on the 6R4 is pretty vulnerable....

You ought to have a go at putting Doran's RS200 on the grid at Lydden - good job I wear thick boots with that front splitter!

Think Will did run the wing a few times especially at Croft, just for the sake of a bit of downfirce as he was doing about 110 mph into Samson in the good old days.
As for RFS200 wings, anyone remember that Holm ran a silly wing kit on his old RS, then Iversen went one better with quite the most ridiculous kit I ever saw, must have made it hard toi pass eh Pat!!
Think Nilsson and Renny had the best kit and Pekka's later one was gorgeous. Interesting to note that Renny went back to all standard body in the blue car, maybe sold the body to Nilsson.
Anyone ever seen some of the Frnch stuff. Saw some pics the otehr day of Guy Frequelin in a 205 and Bruno Saby in an S4. Briliant wings. They put some great stuff out in thos days, Alpines and Porsches that made Iversens look stupid.

Gollop only really used a proper front wing (f1 type) at Croft in 1991 which was the final round of the gb championship (remeber when he passed Palmer and Squibb coming out of mad hatters into the shuttle....one of the best manouvres i have ever seen). He used the wing to test to see what an effect it had for the following weeks european encounter at Lydden to take on schnache...it had no real effect which is why it was taken off and never seen again. The was also a worry that it could get trapped under the front wheels if it came loose.]

Got a picture of saby's S4 framed in my room.....its like a tank.

I think the FIA did right to ban them as they were just getting stupid in the end, especially in 1995 when schanche's escort had a f1 rear wing on and the front wing from and F1 car.
