You are aware 99% of the grid bring funds, even those guys you mention? I don't see a problem.

Although I get the point, it wouldn’t be a “wasted seat”. The drive goes to whoever brings the budget - if none of the aforementioned have sufficient backing, then the likliehood is the “seat” wouldn’t exist anymore

Whether Nic struggles or succeeds - and I hope the latter - he will attract mainstream media coverage and that is a plus for the series and motorsport overall.
I would be inclined to think the drive will be in one of the four AmD run cars - purely on past association. It's entirely possible, even probable, big brother Lewis's personal sponsors will be involved, which would potentially produce a good budget to race with. |

Am I a fan of Nic? No
Do I think he is only really getting there because of his name? Yes Do I think there are better drivers available? Yes But the important one: Do I think his money will keep a team running for the full season? Yes I can name about 10 better drivers in Clio cup last season who would be more competitive: Epps, Dorlin, Mccarthy, Rivett,.. even Edwards but none of these have major sponsors like Jet fuel or Monster fizzy pop to fund them. AMD may seem the obvious choice due to past associations but im going to throw BMR out there as a suggestion. They desperately need the money and publicity that Nic would provide, especially if JP is off |

Of course there are better drivers than Nic, but I agree. If he keeps a team running it's worth it. True he's there because of his name, but he's not that bad. He certainly wasn't miles off the pace when he was first in the BTCC. And driving with a disability must be an inspiration to others

Well Barrie Anderson the king of BTCC hearsay is fairly adamant that it's a done deal we will see Nic in the BTCC.
He hasn't had to resort to bully boy tactics to prove his point yet however.... |

Interesting stuff, I’d be delighted to see Nic Hamilton in the BTCC again. We’d all love to see Motorsport where all that is needed is talent but in the really real world you need cash!
Cash has long been the ladder into racing for drivers without the requisite talent to run at the front. Antony Hamilton blew that to bits by grafting in apparently 4 jobs at once to get Lewis through the junior formulae. For a long time motorsport was.... well.... a bit Caucasian. Lewis Hamilton has blown that barrier to smithereens and Kudos to him for doing so. For a little more time Motorsport has been... well... too male! 2019 sees the introduction of a female only single seater category as a potential ladder to assist females into motorsports where they are under represented at the top level. So given all of that I have no problem with Nic Hamilton being helped into motorsport. Just as I’m sure Billy Monger has had his profile raised by what tragically happened to him. Yes I know Billy was talented before the accident before anyone pipes up. Perhaps there needs to be more ladders into motorsport for people who are not white, rich, able bodied or male? |

quite, given the alternative would likely be someone without the pedigree folk would like to see, a guy like hamilton who brings some really positive attention and visibility for the disabled community... this is good news. him competing means a lot to a lot of people.

Got a huge amount of respect for Nic so I'll be happy to see him in the BTCC again.
It doesn't matter if there are "better" drivers out there or not. They haven't done what is necessary to get on the grid at the end of the day. |

I hope Nic does alright and as you say for sake of diversity I would like to see a bit more of a mix for the so called top level of British motorsport, I do also think there should/could be more female presence on the grid, Jade Edwards is a prime example of someone who could have a seat and again is almost a guarantee of publicity for the series and a team. |

That’s a shame, Rob’s one of my favourites and this likely means he won’t be on the grid.
Also that’s only 30 cars so the two TOCA loan TBLs are no more. |

I guess for some, this is now confirmation of Tordoff/GardX taking their TBL back from HMS, and getting Motorbase to hold it for them in 2019 (having moved on the other one they owned to PMR) ?!?!?!? |

"Aiden Moffat Racing, 1" - can we gauge from this that he may no longer be associated with Laser tools?

'Jason Plato has confirmed today that every Subaru Levorg chassis has an integral feature that prevents him from being able to extract the highest level of performance. The team are at a loss to understand why, as Jason is the best driver ever in the history of the BTCC, and he is able to mentor any engineer to provide him with a championship winning car.
Having identified that Rob Austin and his engineers are clearly not at the level of Jason, he has decided to lease the Alfa Romeo from HMS for the 2019 season, and has arranged for BMR to run it alongside a single Subaru entry. This will mean the BTCC fans will get to see their favourite marque of car, driven by their favourite driver, with the fans favoured sponsor resulting in a team that are the best in the paddock. Jason is proud to have put all of this together single-handedly and is looking forward to taking his 100th BTCC victory and the championship in 2019.' |
