Today was the last straw

left oulton park at lunch to go post a letter at the nearby post box when i returned back to get back in the person on the gate said can i have your ticket please i told them ive already been on post this morning
told him what post etc ring race control etc and all i got was i still need a ticket for me to let you in so i didnt want to argue with the person so i said it and came home and rang oulton park up and left a message with someone to let them know what happened and they didnt seem to bother so why should i so heres what going to a free home
complete marshals gear free to a good home due to being totally off with the marshaling world

I've said it before and I will say it again - being a marshal does not give you a right not to have your ticket with you, just as I as a journalist or any other competitor, official or member of the public would.

Is it that much trouble to keep it with you?

Must have been a very important letter. Last post on a Saturday is 12ish. Maybe you should have posted it on your way home. It a shame you missed the afternoon, there was some good racing. Live and learn.

If you had a ticket why didn't you show it to the man on the gate then? Very confused.

I am sure there must have been a better alternative to going home. I am amazed that you could not contact some one to help you. I have been going to Oulton for over 20 years, and have never had a problem with acces to the circuit. Were you in your Probans?

Woody, I can assure you that you will regret that desiscion. I walked away about 2-3 years ago for various reasons. With hind site is was a rash move. Try Three Sisters for a change, but dont throw the hat in too easily. You end up doing DIY and **** like that.

Unfortunatly the gate staff have no direct contact with race control. They can only contact the circuit office.

Then go to three sisters, last time i went you even got some money only £10-15, but it helps with the fuel.

Hi I have been reading some of your replies in respect of Woody experience and believe most are unfair. Those who so self rightously say he should have done this or that appear never have made a mistake. Whenever dealing with officials these days you must take into account that many only have a brain that can absorb instructions and not use common sense.
It is a great pity that we should loose a marshal due to such mindless behavour. Woody I am afraid this is the times we live in. When people cant even give an apology. Initially I think I would feel like you but count to ten and think of those you may be letting down by not attending your local circuit.
Hope to see you on the bank sometime.

If aimed at me, of course I've made mistakes. But I'd think "did I do everything I could do to avoid a problem" before I posted on a forum, that's all.

Woody, don't give your stuff away.
Been in the same situation in 2002 at the Melbourne GP. Had all the right tickets and more, got manhandled at the gate.
Stayed that day only, because we had a service for Graham Beveridge at Turn 3.
But with the help of fellow marshalls and time, i have done more than 30 meetings since.
So keep your stuff, take a couple of weeks off, and by that time you will start to miss the cameraderie bwtween your mates.
