Yunis should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
modern F1 engine torque figures

ppl keep ranting on about the bmw produces over 19000 and 930 bhp but how much torque do they push out? torque is more imporant than overall bhp...well on road cars anyway

I read somewhere that the torque figures were in the lower hundreds...
but if you use the formula of TorqueXRPM/5252=hp

TorqueX19,000/5252=900

torqueX19000=900X5252
torque=4726800/19000
torque=278.778 lbft.
for that given F1 car- now maps of fuel can be changed for more or less torque at the expense of high rpm power....
While Champ cars with 750 turbo HP
gather up about 328.25 lb.ft of torque, and with varying fuel maps and lower hp at the rev limit of 12K you can get up to 400 or more on street course where top gear is rarely redlined...

There are some decent stabs at the torque figures in this thread:

Perhaps you should learn precicely what torque is first.Do you mean to ask "are f1 engines peaky?" or "what shape is their power curve?" ?
(and yes,everybody missapplies the word torque)

The basic answer to that is-they idle at about 4000rpm.From there to about 14500'ish it rises in a linear fashion but is pretty pathetic.At about 15000 the serious power is starting and continues with no serious spikes until it tapers off a little at allmost 19000.
That is an educated guess built from comments by drivers and the occasional tidbit of info from engineers.
