Indeed, and their recent statement re the name change they confirmed the team "will remain fully owned by Red Bull and will continue to be run as a junior team.

"The cooperation with Red Bull Racing will be closer, also in terms of cost cap and synergies."

The big issue is the effective formalising of using AT budget cap capacity to improve the RBR car…

Yes - there is no masking of the statement "The cooperation with Red Bull Racing will be closer, also in terms of cost cap and synergies."

In effect, is this running with the budget of two teams (2x cost caps) to produce a single car design?

It was an issue for the football teams (RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg) and they were forced to make significant changes in staff at the two clubs before they were allowed to compete in the same tournament(s).

That's not allowed. As with the HAAS design office at Ferrari at Marenello, the not-Minardi design office at Red Bull at Milton Keynes has to be entirely separate.

A tour of the HAAS design office at Ferrari Maranello: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chdNBl_LEMY

Of course they can share the Maranello cafeteria and discuss ideas, but transfer of drawings or digital data is strictly prohibited. The wind tunnel has to be cleaned out of data and models each time "HAAS" personnel take it over from "Ferrari" personnel, likewise for the Ferrari simulator (which AlphaTauri and Red Bull likewise already share).

Yeah, nothing ‘not allowed’ ever happens in F1…

(If that was true the cars would be significantly slower…)

getting Ric race ready for what is likely to be the eventual, perhaps even imminent(?), replacement of Perez?

Shame for De Vries I hope he finds a slot, perhaps with a WEC team to re build his confidence. I also hope Danny Ric gets his mojo back.

If he replaced Perez, wouldn't he be back where he was with RBR, having to play second fiddle to Verstappen? I think it would be better for him to stay put at AphaTauri.

no doubt he will be happy that he has been given a chance to get back into the game, but surely his goal has to be getting back into a race winning RB rather than being content to return and stay with Toro Rosso no?

Better for him but is it better for Red Bull and Marko's ego to keep him in the baby car? Although Perez is hauling in points at a decent rate regardless of his starts

Would RBR want to potentially repeat what happened at Baku?

If it avoids a repeat of Baku, then yes it's better for Red Bull.

Perception is an amazing thing in F1. In the last 2 races, Perez has extended his gap over third place in the championship and is currently on track to do what no RBR driver has ever done - clinch a second place, resulting in a 1-2 for RBR in the championship. Yet, because Marko has ADHD, it seems we continue to talk about how he's absolutely going to be replaced - and the leading candidate is someone who was even worse last time.

one would think they are not worried about that otherwise they would not have re hired him as their 3rd driver this season and now placed him in an AT seat.

its a harsh world in RB land for sure.

another take could be guarding against complacency. another could be that Horner and Marko have always been rather ruthless in how they treat their drivers not named Max and regardless of how well Perez does his seat is not guaranteed.

during their last winning period, even Weber only ever got one year long deals (iirc). that 2nd RB seat will always have a lit fire under it.

but also difficult to argue against that philosophy?

As 3rd driver for RBR, he was in no direct competition with Verstappen. He is now going to AT, which could potentially put him in direct competition. However, I don't see that happening based on AT's current form so far this season.

I dont follow F1 all that closely so i cant say if De Vries deserves this or not but i do find it sad that since it was announced that Ricciardo was the third driver for Red Bull, it has seemed inevitable that somebody was going to get the boot for him.

Don’t forget that next year the junior team is going to run the RB car, within the current rules framework, and they’ll need reliable feedback.

This will also give them a steer on whether to persevere with Tsunoda or not.

This is how I see it. No doubt Perez irritates RBR and I can imagine if they felt they could find a better replacement, they would drop him in a second, but... Perez is getting it done well enough.

As to Daniel Ricciardo, the evil side of me wants to see him be crushed by Yuki. I will try to be a better person and wish him will on his return to having an F1 drive and his new climb back up the grid.
