Off to Canberra!

What will Billy Woods say this year??

Who will win?

Who will win the reverse grid race?

Who will get pole?

Will lil Johny Howard get his mono on tv?

Will there be carnage?

Can Lowndes bite back?

Will HRT do it again?

How about Team Kiwi?

Or Cam Mclean? He had a great run in Darwin, and was tragically unlucky at Canberra last year.

Can the Rat redeem himself for Adelaide?

Will Garth have another shocker like last year?

Will everyone have to put their cars in neutral and wait their turn to get around the first corner?

Is this round a joke?

What will Billy Woods say this year??
Consistently inconsistent.

Who will win?
No one knows...Canberra is impossible to pick with the full reverse grid.

Who will win the reverse grid race?
Brad Jones

Who will get pole?
Brad Jones

Will lil Johny Howard get his mono on tv?
Brad Jones...sorry, got carried away with the running gag.

Will there be carnage?
Well duh.

Can Lowndes bite back?
Yes

Will HRT do it again?
Probably

How about Team Kiwi?
They will finish.

Or Cam Mclean? He had a great run in Darwin, and was tragically unlucky at Canberra last year.
Just as long as the bad luck isn't this year as well

Can the Rat redeem himself for Adelaide?
With some nice fresh walls to hit? never.

Will Garth have another shocker like last year?
Considering GRM current form...yep.

Will everyone have to put their cars in neutral and wait their turn to get around the first
corner?
Except for Ingall who will just barge through

Is this round a joke?
Hope not as I'm going to it.

nz- are you talking about the first turn of the reverse grid race, or the bit where he cut the chicane seconds before Faulkner impaled himself against the wall?

He didn't get on at the first turn- he got a big whack from behind, and really had no choice. But he did get one when he cut the chicane with a loose whell- no steering- another touch of brilliance on the officials behalf

yeah, 1st turn Crash.

I remember last year there was talk that the cars should start each race in single file through that first corner to avoid possible carnage? I havent heard anything so suppose that idea hasnt been implemented.

OK, I'll be totally honest. Canberra is my least favourite track.

I am can't stand the place, mainly because of the hideous reverse grid and the narrow track. If it was wider (by and extra 4 metres or so), maybe than I'd like it.

Also, why is it held in Winter, when it is so damn cold? Wouldn't they get more spectators if it was in Spring or Autumn or something.

Lets revive this old thread huh?

What will Billy Woods say this year?? -ARRGGHHHH, shut up Billy!

Who will win? -Its a lottery with the walls, and the reverse grid etc....the winner probably wont be 'motorsport'

Who will win the reverse grid race? - I hope it is a Ford, Brad Jones, Tratt, oh Tratt, go the dreamdrive.tv!

Who will get pole? -Skaife, then Murph

Will lil Johny Howard get his mono on tv? - I hope not

Will there be carnage? -Nah, everyone is too scared these days, and Canberra jump compounds that...

Can Lowndes bite back? -I hope so, for the good of the championship.

Will HRT do it again? -Yeah why not....

How about Team Kiwi? -A chance in the reverse grid race?
Or Cam Mclean? He had a great run in Darwin, and was tragically unlucky at Canberra last
year. -As always, I hope he goes well.

Can the Rat redeem himself for Adelaide? -Blimey...I hope he doesnt do that again...

Will Garth have another shocker like last year? -GRM still seem to be on a major downer atm....shake out of it boys!

Will everyone have to put their cars in neutral and wait their turn to get around the first corner? -Widening that first turn probably wont be enough....

Is this round a joke? -Yeah, but not a very funny one...

What will Billy Woods say this year?
Something stupid. Something about Canberra being like Monaco.

Who will win?
I have absolutely no idea. Either Bright, Skaife, Lowndes or Murph. I'd like to see Lowndes win and bring himself right back into the championship.

Who will win the reverse grid race?
Steven Johnson or Cam McConville

Who will get pole?
Skaife

Will Johnny Howard get his mono on tv?
I've heard he'll be driving the second Big Kev car (they had to put a booster seat in so he could see over the dash).

Will there be carnage?
I hope so.

Can Lowndes bite back?
My word he can.

Will HRT do it again?
Probably (yawn).

How about Team Kiwi?
Exactly - how about them!?

Can the Rat redeem himself for Adelaide?
Yeah, as long as he realises that the walls are not his friends.

Will Garth have another shocker like last year?
Yep - he doesn't seem to like street circuits much.

Will everyone have to put their cars in neutral and wait their turn to get around the first turn?
Yes - but they won't. I predict a first corner red flag in any one of the races.

Is this round a joke?
I don't think so. I quite like it. This series needs greater variety of tracks (instead of the crappy little go-kart tracks in paddocks that they usually race on). And Canberra certainly is different. However, having a reverse grid race at a place like Canberra is a joke.

Right on about circuits in a paddock, the last one of those that was any good was Lowood... and the straight was over a mile long.

Phillip Island isn't a circuit in a paddock, nor Lakeside or Wanneroo, they have more panache than the average paddock. Wakefield Park? Yes, that's the style of thing, like Calder used to be, and the original Oran Park... but specialised circuits can be good. If they are properly laid out....

My contention is that the money that goes into this race should be spent instead on a permanent circuit below Scrivener Dam... and let the Governor General enjoy the odd race in his backyard!

Absolutely Ray. Big events on street circuits do NOTHING for the sport at state and club level.

A host of Canberrans will become more interested than ever (many have for years travelled north and south to watch and compete), but their interest can't be satisfied locally, so it will die with frustration.

I'll agree with you on one condition Ray:

I'm allowed to design any new circuits. I have spent my entire educational life drawing racetracks, instead of studying, doing homework and have been dying to justify that this may one day lead to something positive.

You got a topo map of the area?

Alongside the Molonglo river, just downstream of Scrivener Dam, between the dam and the Tuggeranong Parkway... I think there's enough room and good enough surroundings to make it interesting.
