Alan Green should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Media Coverage

Surprising amount of media coverage towards marshals in this weeks Motorsport News:

1/2 Page article from Bernard Cottrell (BRSCC) saying how there are too many meetings and not enough marshals / officials (get away )together with a very good photo of how to safely roll a fBMW (I'm guessing Brands, but apologies if not, looks good anyway).

Small piece about kart marshals getting new guidelines to work to, and a side bar of what they do on circuit.

2/3 Page feature from James Roberts on watching the F3 cars from the marshals post at Sunny (P12) at Croft, and the banter he had with the guys there.

Then...

The whole page from the MSAs 'MSA News'. Not one mention or attempt at attracting new marshals, despite the needs of the clubs (as highlighted in the first article listed above). When will they learn that no marshals = no motorsport. No motorsport = no MSA.

Sorry to end on a downer after such positive articles, but I'm afraid it's the main gripe I have with the whole marshalling scene at the moment.

Al.

Alan,

Have you thought about dropping the MSA a note to suggest they use the page to promote marshalling? If you don't ask, you don't get mate.

Perhaps your gripe has clouded your vision somewhat!

There is an article entitled "Plans to attract more volunteers" on the MSA page.

Not that it gives much real information. It gives the MSA the go-ahead to develop a 'national training plan to encourage more volunteers' - and there was me thinking the MSA already had one of those that they copied from the BMMC.

Permission to join your gripe sir?

It was nice to see so much coverage for marshals. I know the Motoring News does have monthly marshaling matters bit but I still think they could do a lot more to promote the hard work that all marshals do, both track side and admin side. I've written to them before on this and recently e-mailed Speed Sunday suggesting they do a piece on marshals but no reply as yet. Marshals don't ask for a lot we all do it because we like doing it but a little recognition and thanks goes a long way.

I don't know if you lot are aware but there is cheap subscription offer on MN at the moment - I was given a leaflet at the Pirelli rally a couple of weeks ago - 6 issues for a quid!

and with BGP not far off maybe another nut job will invade the track and a certain MR. Green will get to try out for the England rugby team again! - and then get the ten tenths badge on the front page of a tabloid paper again

I hope not Sam. I have another clever idea for this years British GP but will spill the beans when I'm back from holiday next Saturday.

I've just had a vision (well I think that's what you would call it) of SG streaking down Hanger Straight waving an placard bearing the words "Come and be a marshal" Actually it wasn't a nice vision
