IIRC the chassis of V8-supercars are productioncars, ofcourse with addes rollcages etc. I thought the engine to was productionbased. That would be no wonder since the Ozzies like their engines big as the Americans. A 5l V8 is not an extreme motor for Australian standards.

If they are productionbased they need to be very old productionbased - AFAIK, modern Falcons and Commodores use aluminium block DOHC engines while V8 run pig-iron block pushrod engines, as NASCAR cars.
But they have fuel injectors and rev limitators

Valenok - You are right in that respect, i understand what you were getting at.

They have run the current pushrod V8s since the class' inception in 1993 and are American based engines (the old 308ci Holden engine was also eligible to start with), and they have stuck with them as they are reliable and relatively cost-effective.

Though the organisers have said that 'more modern' engines are in their plans for the future, particularly if new manufacturers join the mix.

I see Superstars & V8Supercars being more closely aligned than with the DTM,

I thought only Ozzie-made cars where allowed to race in the series? They would have to lift that then, since no other brands are produced in Australia IIRC. Hopefully I'm wrong, More brands would even more improve this spectacular championship. Alhough the ever ongoing fight between Ford and Holden has it's charms...

Toyota builds cars in Australia as well, as did Mitsubishi until a few months ago.

The organisers have talked openly about opening the rules up to anyone (the proviso would presumebly be the car must be sold in Australia, rather than made) if they were interested, due in part to the possible declining commitment from Holden or Ford due to their financial situations. The likes of Chrysler & Mercedes were mentioned, but when asked to comment both said at this stage they weren't interested (that may change though when the rule actually changes)

I think it'd be fantastic if other makes joined.

In fact, the're not Ozzie-made cars, but just Falcon's and Commodore's - two cars with close characteristic's. It mean's they don't need "min weight", ballast and other "beatiful" Superstars things. And it is the main difference. WTCC example show us what cost weight reglament games.
If australians want another make in their championship, they need a car like Falcon and Commodore, not else.

A BMW 550 or a Mercedes C-, or E-class would suit the series I think. Or maybe the new Jaguar.

Or *drool* a Maserati Quatroporte...

She had it in the past two years yes, but I ignore if she continues having this support.

I've heard Ravaglia presented new BMW at last. But the first opportunity to see that car in battle is only in the very end of summer, isn't it?
Besides, the colour scheme for the car was designed at BMW Motorsport,if I understand to it right. Maybe, not only the colour scheme?

08/07/2008 - The BMW M3 sedan developed by ROAL Motorsport for the Superstars Championship made today its first laps on track at Adria. Luca Rangoni, in 26 laps, completed shakedown of the car that will take to its debut on the 31st of August on the track of Varano de´Melegari. Some laps scored by Kristian Ghedina too, he will drive the car in the last two races of the season.
The testing programme, particularly focused on the verification of all mechanical and electric components, has been completed without any particular problem. The type of work, involving frequent stops in the pits for the necessary modifications, made the lap times almost meaningless.
The new BMW M3 will be involved during the next two months in an intense development programme on track in preparation of the first racing weekend.

Roberto Ravaglia (Team principal):
"I am extremely satisfied by the way the BMW M3 Superstars debuted on track. This is the first racing car built by ROAL Motorsport and after today I can satisfactorily say that the project is born in the right way, thanks to the commitment and the optimum work of all my guys".

Roberto Trevisan (Technical director):
"I think that the fact that the car did not have critical problems is very positive. The only small issue we had involved the braking system but we will certainly solve it during the next tests ".

Great looking car. I am surprised BMW Motorsport came with this livery because it's different as their WTCC and F1 design. The car is inhouse developed by ROAL.

New M5 will have V8 twin turbo, and new RS4 will have V6 twin turbo.
Does it means, that we'll see E-classe sedans instead of nowdays partly D-classe?
