wasnt the first and wont be the last! subsequent winning Crossle sportsracer driven by worlds fastest motoring journalist was in the invitation class the following year when the owner decided that perhaps it was built in 1969! Curiously Octane wrote up the race last year the ignored Rob Hartley's 3rd placed Elva and my 4th placed Merlyn and when I wrote to them pointing out their oversite they never published the letter - aforementioned journalist is of course their main test driver/journo!

replica versus original
"invitation class, whos invited and whos not
the influence of press on sport.

Well I stick to racing my dead original TVR Grantura in the 6 hours, no invitation class and luckily nobody writes articles in the press about it. We call this just having fun!!

Which is how it should be. Zandvoort meetings used to provide the best entertainment; finish race on Sunday and hit the bar. Then catch train into Amsterdam and take in the local culture.......then back to Zandvoort and lose shirt in casino, aah the memories.

Are you sure you lost it in the Casino and not in Amsterdam? those days that sunday everybody was complaining about a dirty track when racetimes where way of practice time. But it was just drivers with overpressure banging heads.

Hmm, not sure although it was easy to lose all feeling in your legs...

Nightlife in and around Spa wasn't that good really, just a few local bars unless you actually went into Spa center.

As an aside (and more on topic) what's the entry fee for this years 6 Hours?

Fuel is extra! 2000 eur is about 1400 pounds, gone up a bit since I last entered.

I think a Mustang in good tune might wants up to a litre the minute (well a Healey wants that) so they should have to stop more but I never took notice of that. But what to think about the brakes and tyres, they are heavay to.

We hope to come in 2 times, anybody wants that! And we have to come in at least 2 times.

and are Mustangs allowed 120 litre tanks under FIA rules? tyres will definately be an issue as pit stops really only want to be fuel and driver change. Mustangs are my big threat as they will be quicker than us but if they need an extra stop then we will be back in the runnung!

I think fresh fronts would pay dividents if its warm ? surely you can change them in a minute or two . . . 1 person doing each wheel while drivers change . . .quick juices check and your off ?

Are fuel tank sizes governed by Appendix K? I must admit to never seeing a rule determine the maximum size. I ran a 110 litre tank in the Healey, which was fun when full for the first few laps. As for tyres, if you have a good crew it's not much of a problem to get four tyres changed in little more time than is needed to change a driver. If those tyres then provide superior grip the time lost is easily outweighed. Anyway, it's sort of fun to sit in the car while people rush around and change tyres and then be dropped off the jacks before blasting of down the pitlane, don't you think....

tanks are homogolated - Lotus Cortinas are 90 litres - if Mustangs are the same they would struggle to do 2 hours I would have thought
I am assuming to do 1 tyre change but hopefully not brakes

If your doing one, why not two tyre changes ? even it up for all then.

re tamks, they are homologated, but I doubt theyre checked !

one of the reasond the GT's where so successful is they raced in the US early on and the yank spanners had good ideas re big tanks, easy on pads and tyres, then one big stop, playing the tortoise and hare game . . .it worked

I think most of the V8's, such as LAKs' run 120 odd litre tanks for 2 hours, so yes SImon I think your right, a lot of them sprint in hours

moot point
new gearbox and possible engine rebuild required after Silverstone Classic but hopefully we have now identified the problem which has plagued us all season so hopefully on the way - last minute Goodwood invite (I am not proud!!) for the Merlyn has sidetracked prepwork as the Merlyn was still in pieces after post 6 Hour strip down from last year!
However picked up the two sets of mag minilites we are using after their refurb and they look great and weigh nothing!

was but not now! more a case of waiting reassemble as the engine and gearbox had been done but there was no urgency to reassemble!
The ad produced several very interested parties but my Goodwood invite came along and curiously I suddenly like my car again!! I realized I was looking to sell because I hadnt used it and until I find something to replace it there isnt much point selling given we have spent so much time and money getting it right!
We have three races at Spa for it so after an idle summer it is going to have a very busy September!!

GRATUITOUS BOUNCE !

as the dust settles on Goodwood I feel the need to bounce the other best historic meeting on the planet.

Having not raced since easter for one reason or another, I'm getting very excited, the Diffs rebuilt ( fingers crossed, its the first time I've done one) and preparation is well underway. Also the camper is nearing completion so we'll be staying on site the whole weekend.

I Know LAK and Mr LAK are preparing, and I'm sure SWD racing are spending like its water . . . .updates please ! anyone else ?
