Calling all Porsche experts
Does anyone know if Porsche Spyders were commonly and jokingly referred to as 'Little Bast@rds'? I seem to remember something like this or maybe it was just what James Dean called one of his Spyders.

Ray, great pic. I am not sure of which type of Porsche car this was or if my mind is a bit too foggy but somewhere I think I remember a certain Porsche being referred to as a "Little Bast@rd." I think James Dean referred to a Porsche 550 Spyder he owned as a "Little Bast@rd" but I wondered if that wasn't a term used to for that model in general. There were Porsche cars in the 50's that were smaller and often got in the way of bigger cars like in most sports car races. In fact, two of Masten Gregory's crashes in 1958 (and his first bailout) was due to having one of these smaller Porsche cars moving over in his way going into a corner.
I wonder if the fact that these cars often got in the way of the bigger cars, along with the fact that they were so resilient and reliable, may have been the reasons why these cars (or just James Dean's car?) got the nicknamed "Little Bast@rd." |
