If you've been on RSC recently, I'm having trouble getting my brain around the opening of Blender files. I've already mentioned that I feel simple compared to you smarter people too because I have no idea what to do.

Matt,

you can find the tutorial in the "Blender files" file you can download from the first comment here:

http://forum.racesimcentral.com/showthread.php?t=260865

Once you unzip the file you'll find - among others - the file "Build_a_Track.html". that's the tutorial.

Thre forum thread you downloaded the file from also comes handy at times - good questions and good answers.

Before you strat reading or using it, I recommend you to read a tutorial on how to use Blender itself. There are good tuts, this one, for example:

http://www.blender.org/education-hel...face-tutorial/

That one takes like half an hour, not much really.

Another one that might come handy:

All right, guess it's time to let you put my tracks to the real test.

Here's some of my tracks for Racer:

http://supremacy.hu/groundzero/biotracks.zip

It's a zipfile with Goodlum Park, Heviz, La Coruna, Larissa, Moorgate Park, Oslo and Perth. You can find all of them in my thread.
The tracks are in basic form, only the asphalt and the immediate surroundings - plus kerbs for some of them. The different floorcover types react the same way - the gravel doesn't catch the car, the grass acts just like the asphalt - it's just skin

To drive on them you have to do this:

- download and install Racer (http://www.racer.nl/)
- download biotracks.zip
- unpack biotracks.zip to the folder racer/data/tracks
- run Racer.

Some advice:

- you may not be able to play racer if you're connected to the internet while trying to play. Somehow Racer seems to assume you want to play online if your internet connection is active. Maybe you can tell it that you don' - I haven't found it out yet how. If you get a message that Racer is trying to connect to a certain port when you'd play just disconnect and try again.

- Racer contains only one car to use, a certain Lamborghini. That's good enough but I'd recommend to download more. Iroker's site: http://www.iroker.com/e107_plugins/d...php?sort=brand seems to be a very good source. The car I've been using to test my tracks, BMW M1 can also be found here - i recommend that.
You put the downloaded cars to the racer/data/cars folder.

Have fun and let us hear your feedback!

Bio, i see you use google sketchup for creating your tracks. Can you not export it as a .3ds document then import that into Blender that you use to create your racers tracks? Easier to do elavation again i would of thought

On blender if you go to File then import there is a .3ds option. If you use that you could use the sketchup version to line up all your roads and elavations alot easier probably.. handy thing is google sketchup should already have the units set up to being in metres etc

Oh, shoot, I was thinking of TrackEd... sorry, my bad.

I didn't use my Sketchup files because it's not really suitable for doing elevation changes.

I won't bother you by asking you to do one of my tracks, I'll try to learn myself, how else are you going to learn than by doing things yourself?

That'll have to wait for some time, I have to get most of my work done before the 26th (Graduating and all.), but because the holidays are coming up for me after then, I can come back for the 1st week of term and finish the rest. I'll definitely put some time aside to learn the tricks of the trade of track creatingon the holidays.

Thx for the links btw.

You can do one of mine. It would be interesting to drive it before its built.

Wow great thread, I really look forward to trying this all out myself. I really appreciate everyone's insight and patience here. I know I'm new here but I nominate this thread to be a sticky.
