SUPER-aguri !!! should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
1.5mile oval

hi all , thought i would design a track on sketchup, to get away from my tradtional pen and paper medium.

i have designed a generic ISC/SMI 1.5 mile oval, with infield roadcourse included. the circuit design is quite simple, and so i though if i upload the sketchup file , that others could have a go at any modifcations/additions.
the track was created in sketchup 7.1 , so that is needed to view the track.

crit/comments welcome as usual

looks great...now jus find someone with 50 million to build it...i like the oval and the infield section is cool cos its not 'mickey mousey'....got some proper corners

jus need a drag strip on it now too!

That is what Americans call a "cookie-cutter oval". The second infield section has too short straights, the second one could be longer if the esses were moved closer to oval turn 3. Now try a more assymetric oval (Rockingham, Darlington, Motegi)

A cookie cutter oval is typicaly a tri oval and not a much harder quad oval. Therefore I say good job on that.

Good one, which direction it goes?
Which parts of the infield are used for circuit?

Anticlockwise unless it's in a country where cars have the steeringwheel on the right unless an international series visits. The roadcourse may be clockwise so I'll let SUPER-aguri !!! have his word on that.

Quintin, there are clockwise rovals in anticlockwise ovals, e.g. Indianapolis.

That's why I said that I left the explanation on the direction of the roadcourse to Super-aguri.

Nice idea with uploading the SKU file in ZIP format. People can really notice the finer details. I think that could prove useful to make actual edits, or learn from other people's Ideas. Will make sure I'll include that in my next design.

As for the track itself, it's a case of me repeatin the comments of everyone else. Solid shape, infield isn't too fussy, looks like it could have some good racing.

hi all,
yeh both circuits would be anti-clockwise of course. sorry for not explaining further.

I do believe this track would fit the cookie-cutter stereotype, as it is a texas/atlanta/charlotte style oval. although negatively frowned upon, i quite like the style of racing they produce.

With the roval, yeah its nothing special, as most rovals are, but i was focused more on making a total rounded facility, rather than comprimising one track or the other.

thanks for the all the comments
