[iV8SC15AGP] 2015 Formula 1® Rolex Australian Grand Prix -12-15Mar

2015 marks two decades of Formula 1® at Albert Park.

The V8Supercar Championship series stages its second event of the season at the picturesque Melbourne street track.

Whilst not racing for championship points, 4x 30 minute races across the weekend should ensure plenty of action, and usually some surprise winners. Anyone who says they dont try at these no-points paying events is probably having a lend...

Melbourne Magic...

I'm with GTR on how hard the drivers try..... and anyway a driver isn't worth his salt if he doesn't try and win a race, no matter whether you get some numbers at the end of it or not.

I don't think there was the opportunity for this year (The end of the Fox Sports telecast today indicated that Fox Sports aren't showing any of the V8s at Albert Park)

It's usually not a bad turn out for what is essentially a glorified test session. Cars with good chassis setups do well here. So expect the usual suspects (Red Bull Aus, Holden Racing Team, Tekno, Wilson Security-Volvo, Brad Jones Racing) to be up front. IMO, I think DJR Team Penske is going to struggle as their cars are normally good with engine speed, but their chassis setup needs to be desired.

Isn't Super Black and Rod Nash Racing getting X upgrades?

Australia has been so up & down about rolling starts over the years.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVMii-dejQU

When we don't have them there are calls to introduce them, then we get them and they are gone within a season.

Rolling starts were all the rage in 86 & 87, culminating in Bathurst '88 starting with a roller before they fell out of favour for taking the excitment out of the starts.

They came back in again in the early 90s for the Peter Jackson Dash before being dropped again, and then in 2013/early 14 they were the rage again before being dropped for causing too much carnage

The more things change the more they stay the same.

I reckon Australian GP Organisers should do 2 V8 races held at night with the other 2 during the day

if you watch the start of race 3 from clipsal (and i dont mean the million dollar plus crash which could also happen on standing starts) but how disjointed the field was at the start. That would be why im not a fan of rolling starts on street circuits

They work on ovals but in street circuits they suddenly come into view while half the field is still around the corner or out of position due to the side of the track they are on and then a green flag waves

As a spectator the standing start is way more exciting . But less stress on a car with a rolling start

however at the GP i really dont care how they do it, maybe they can mix it up

Doesn't look like they'll be aired in Europe, as usual. At least not on MotorsTV, nor Viasat Motor.

Rolling starts work if the pole sitter does the right thing and actually looks behind him to check if he has to alter speed to organise the field. We use them all the time and have zip problems because the pole sitter knows the issues. It might also be that the pole sitter starts playing games to upset the field and gain advantage, it's all fair in love, war and motor racing. I have a mate who specialised in stuffing a rolling start if he felt it did not look good for him when the flag dropped.
