The start of the 2007 oval racing season at Rockingham, near Corby. After a tough season last year, indications are that the stock car numbers are well up, and some major sponsors are getting involved. Shane Lynch is also trying his hand at oval racing after several successful years in GTs. There is also a full pack of Pickup Trucks to celebrate their tenth anniversary this year. At 140mph around the 1.5mile oval, laps are quick and the racing gets very close. The concrete walls bite back as well, as many drivers discover over the course of the season
Support races at this meeting include Silhouettes (VSRs)(Sat & Sun), Super Mighty Minis, Mighty Minis, LMA Eurosaloons (all Saturday only), and Fiats and Alfa Romeos (Sunday only). There is also a gathering of MR2 owners for a world record parade attempt (many hundred expected) plus other bits & pieces
Marshals of all levels are required with the infield posts needing manning for the support events, then switching to the oval communication points or pitlane fire/cleanup points for the oval sessions. If it is like last year, lunch bags will be available at signing on on both days, and a minibus will run between the outer paddock and sign-on, and between infield and oval posts at change round times
