Isn't Montoya on the softer compound? Why is he slower than Ralf/Alonso?

Even though I'm an unashamed Button fan it's good to see Sato so close to his teammate

Why? Sato is quick.

Peter I think Button was pushing Montoya towards the end, although it is difficult to say due to the problem Montoya developed.

Montoya was on the 'softer' compound, but how that translates into pace over a stint and when and how it produces its speed in the stint is different. Also again when don't know the extent of Montoya's problem. However my guess is that it wasn't too much of a problem until near the end.

Yes. Not taking anything from Monty but he seemed to be in trouble before his gearbox let go. Button was gaining quite quickly. So either it was a forunner of the geartbox problem or his tyres.

However as demonstrated by Sato and Ralf. The BAR definitely had better grip than the Williams' in the slower corners.

So I shouldn't be pleased then?!
You misunderstand me.
It wasn't a critisism of Satos ability, merely a pleasing acknowledgment that he is answering his critics with good lap times and decent overtaking. I'm not belittling his performance due to my bias towards Button, I like Sato too. I especially liked his maturity regarding the Ralf episode, and his respect when overtaking DC.

If Fernando qualified a bit better he would probably be third in the standings.
