Englishman James Hanson gets the second Volvo ProDrive ETCC seat

From Autosport:

Hanson signs for Volvo's ETCC attack - Swedish marque gives young Brit his big break

James Hanson has signed to partner Rickard Rydell in Prodrive-prepared Volvo S60s in this year's European Touring Car Championship, as predicted by AUTOSPORT magazine.

Hanson drove an Edenbridge-run, BMW 320 in last year's ETCC Super Production class, and his knowledge of the European circuits was one factor in Prodrive and Volvo's decision to place him alongside Rydell, the 1998 BTCC champion.

I must admit that I had no idea whatsoever that ProDrive would prepare Volvo's cars for the ETCC - and Volvo S60's to that! Man, this ETCC season is going to be sooo cool

Hopefully Hanson will be able to produce some results - Volvo has had a way of giving Rydell teammates in the past (when they were in the BTCC) that were plain average compared to Rydell.

Hanson is far from average - take a look at his CV on his official website www.jameshanson.net

This time though, it's Prodrive not Volvo who are picking Rydell's teammate.

His CV is far from amazing either. He is a competant driver who is fairly quick, but he's also a consistant under performer dating back to his karting days.

Edman should have got the seat - I hope he gets a 3rd car in 2003. But good luck to James regardless. As a Volvo fan, I hope he gives it to Alfa, BMW and Nissan, and hopefully that lone JAS Civic!

I've got this strange feeling that the Volvo will not be a competitive car.

We'll see. But considering what ProDrive did with the Ferrari in the FIA GT Series, I don't think the Volvo will be that bad

With Prodrive preperation and Rickard Rydell, i reckon the Volvo may be one of, if not the, car to beat this season.
