Stone Brothers 2004
Will SBR go to 3 cars next year or will they stay with 2 cars next year. Now they have increased funding from ford and a multi year contract they should enough funding and i'm sure they will not have any problems finding another sponser if needed.

SBR prove that multiple car teams are not necessarily the way to go.
They need to acquire a franchise for a start but I think that at this point in time they are happy with two cars. The Winterbottem team need to raise some serious cash to expand SBR to three cars. I am ledto beleive a possible QLD team may merge with this operation next season, this giving SBR there third franchise. |

I can neither say nor speculate. There are franchises available next season and the one SBR are looking at is QLD. This is all I know. But then again I have been wrong before and so have my sorces. Also from what I understand Ellery beleives he is still running a car next season as the deal stands. Will be interesting though.

i wonder if they will have a satelite team featuring Winterbottom and Noske as part of a Noske run, SBR prepared to car team. To me it would solve SBR's problems.

I've been thinking about this for a while.
Mark Larkham must be close to the end of full time driving, he use to run his car out of the SBR workshop in the early Mitre 10 days. So if Larko wanted to offload the team completely or part of with the engineering done by SBR would probably be a benefit to both teams, and would have a seat for Winterbottom and probably Bargwanna. |

But why would he be looking to retire? One win at the non-championship Indy support races in '99 is a bleak blip on the screen He wants a Bathurst win no doubt. He could have one, perhaps next year...

I'm sure at Sandown last year when Larko announced Bargs would be joining him that this would be more than likely his last year of driving.

I have this theory........
Maybe when SBR figure out what it is that they will be up to next year (with regards to Winterbottom), the rest of us have a chance of getting it right. But until then, all this theorising is pretty much wasted. Me I'm happy to wait till at least they know before I start thinking I do. |

Harsh but fair Lyris And I agree.
My preference would be to see SBR continue with a Konica program in 2004, if only to help develop that category and increase its profile from their involvement. And to win the series as well if they are worthy. A great benchmark for the field of main series speed against the development program |

Right on GTR. I think that the Stones definately should keep running the Konica series and developing youth in Motorsport. They seem to have a knack for finding talent, (Bright, Ambrose, Besnard, Winterbottem), and like I said earlier SBR prove that they don`t need more cars to win. Konica is starting to grow and hopefully teams like SBR, SER, DJR and Young lionsetc keep supporting it and other teams start to follow suit.

I believe SBR have the funding to run another two car Team in the main Series as has CPR. The only Question is who will Ford be able to lure from the Holden ranks to join winterbottom. Another question is will Winterbottom star in the main show or will he suffer from Post Konica Syndrome like last years "star" Dumbrell and Canto, etc.

Nup Winterbottom has far greater speed than Dumbrell or Canto ever had, and he even has the 'AU disadvantage' to deal with.

Mark Winterbottom has been faster than Dumbrell or Canto were at each track, take for example he would have qualified 5th at Phillip Island in the main series, that's seriously quick especially in a AU.
