What are you looking forward to MOST about 2002??

Gosh, March isn't that far off!! (well, it is, but work with me here) I CAN'T WAIT!!

But what is the ONE THING (repeat ONE THING) you're looking forward to the most??

Yeah yeah, I KNOW there's too many things to list really, but there MUST be one thing above all else that you're REALLY looking forward to.

Me?? JPM vs Ralf. The politics within the Willy team are going to be fascinating. When Button came in he romped all over Ralfie and gave him a real wake up call. When JPM came in, Ralf came out on top (statistically at least). But this ignores the fact that JPM really IS god. He's the most exciting driver I've seen since.. well.. TGF in fact, IMO.

Thus everyone's saying JPM will be fighting Michael yadda yadda. But if we actually bother to LOOK at it, he'll have just as much trouble dispatching of RALF. And by this time where will TGF be?? Will JPM stand for it??

Come on, there HAS to be something you're wetting yourself to see!! The 900bhp Beemer?? Toyota?? Renault?? Massa?? Sato?? TGF?? Kimi?? THE NEW MINARDI!!?? TELL ME!!!

Or die.

Kimi. I've been on this bandwagon since the 2000 FRenault season, and I ain't jumpin' off anytime soon

He won't be champion this year, but he will win a few races (especially if the new Ferrari package proves a bit unreliable).

The one thing I am waiting for.

The overtaking.

All the suspense for months and months and then there it is, a overtaking manuver for the first time of the 2002 season in Indy.
)

Its all happening!!!!

Stuck in an armchair, or a bar stool. Eyes on TV. No blinking. Heart bits up to 140 per minute. Shortened & speeded up breath.
Red light...second...third...fourth...fifth...sixth...*heart bits & breath stopped*...lights go off......

That's how I see the beggining of the season every year, and that's the ONE THING I'm waiting for.

DC winning his first championship.
Ralfy crying because JPM came 2nd, five places ahead of him, despite JPM blowing his engine up in half of the races and Ralfy finishing every race by conserving his engine.
Mikey discovering that it was Ruby who kept slipping the hallucogenics into his pre race drink.
Not having to watch Mrs Hakkinen, instead of the race.
Seeing all the DC bashers having to eat their words.
Mikey saying "Next year will be my year" at the end of the season.
Taking my son to Spa for his first Grand Prix.

Some Real Competition for the Champ

In the absense of Mika Hakinnen, there is no other driver who clearly has the ability and the equipment to give TGF an honest run for his money. My fondest hope is that someone - or more than one - will show themself/ves capable of doing this . Maybe it will be JPM, or Kimi or Jenson or even Alonso. It matters not, but let them do it on a regular basis. Last season was dull because there was no sustained attack on TGF's position, and one of those attackers will not be competing at least in 2002. If F1 is to maintain its lustre, we need some real, sustained competition!

Who will be the best rookie -- Felipe Massa or Takuma Sato? Two brilliant new talents, for sure.

(And -- just for fun: How well will Alex Yoong perform in the Asiatech-powered Minardi? I think he's better than he's given credit for, and may surprise some people. Maybe.)

Watching Kimi really struggle, in trying to keep up with DC (let alone help him to the title).

Schummi's got it in the bag....

Looking forward to:

JPM really setting up a championship challenge, although TGF will prevail in the end
How DC and Kimi get along, and if the new car is competitive
Debut of Sato and Fisichella finally winning a race
Button falling flat on his face once again so it'll be bye bye to his career
But what I'm most looking forward to is Heidfeld proving to everyone that he should have got the seat at McLaren by taking, oh, let's say 4 podiums (and maybe even a win!)

Of course, with that last one, I'm dreaming.

To see if the second tier of teams can close the gap to the big three, and claim points more on car performance, and not by picking up the scraps after retirements. Wishful thinking, I guess...

Speaking of Toyota, apparently Brunner had absolutely nothing to do with the test car, and went straight to designing the '02 effort. Consequently, we can probably disregard all of the test times we heard about this year. I would expect the new car to be significantly quicker.

I hope the Asiatechs are much improved, and Minardi is not using them just because they're free...
