For me, it's the run down into the Foxes Throat and also the few fast right handers as you start the decent to Adenau Bridge before Weir Sifen or whatever it's called.
There's nothing to see on the other side of the armco ..., and actually you can blend the three blind bends together into one and get a real lick on. Very fast and ballsy. Rosberg used to be AMAZING down here. Last edited by gfm; 17 Jun 2004 at 21:13. |

About my last post Firstly its Karussell and secondly I'll try again with the picture:
As you say, the way it drops down to Adenau is fantastic. Interestingly the bit towards the bridge has a speed limit when the 'ring is open to the public because of the entance/exit to the track there. Last edited by Adam43; 17 Jun 2004 at 21:13. |

This was taken by Tony Dron and it's Gunnar Neilson leading us in his Lola the Supervees in 73.
I'm enjoying this Adam. Last edited by gfm; 17 Jun 2004 at 21:13. |

That shows the armco very well. It is quite daunting how the armco is that far from the track for the whole 20km of the Nordschleiffe. No runs off like normal!

I can't believe a rolling start produced such a situation into the first corner!

here is a picture of the bend, but it was taken ten years earlier then the accidend. it is the fast left , you see in the background where the track disappears on the left. it is about 200m before the much sharper bergwerk bend.

I have a good one.
Bright sunny early morning practise in the mid seventies with FSV supporting an international 1000 kms sports cars or some such. Getting in the groove, waved yellow flags going into these corners above Adenau, Metzgelsfeld, steep downhill righthand high second gear. Bugger I thought, but as we slowed down there was some activitiy on the track (bad sign) and there was an engine, gearbox and some rear suspension and one wheel hanging on, but that was all! Thirty yards further on was a deranaged front end of a car all at queer angles, with the seat AND DRIVER still on board. Driver on seat which is pinned to some of the chassis amidships. This was a BIG ONE and it was Rosberg's Kaimannn just all over the track, fluids bleeding and steaming, witha few blokes trying to extracate him. He was OK and lived to fight the following practise session of course, the Kaimann having spare everything in their eurobus. But as shunts go, that was as big as I had seen. This is a link to a lap I did in my old Lotus Elise in Sept 2002, it was early (8am-ish) so a little slippery so slightly slower than normal. (There was also a race meeting on the GP circuit hence the trip through the old pit lane).
The Lauda crash site is at 4mins 50secs it's difficult to tell on that compressed version but I am doing approx 110mph. Lap of the Nuerburgring |
