Ooops:

OOPS:
I'll try again!

With the new rallycross season nearly upon us, lets have a look at some of the new driver/car combinations coming out to play.

The main 2 classes:

Supercars:
George Tracey Peugeot 307cc
Steve Hill Mitsubishi Evo 9
Colin Anson Ford KA 4*4 T16
Derek Jobb Ford Escort RS2000
Dermot Carnegie Ford Fiesta ST
Ollie O'Donovan New Car!!?

Super Modified
Martyn Tinker Renault Clio V6
Dave Bellerby Lotus Elis S2 Powered by a Honda Vtec engine (with 4 more to hire!!)
Mike Turpin Vauxhall VX220
Dave Pearson Vauxhall VX220
Richard Wakeling MG ZS
Paul Wakeling new 2.0 Corsa
Ben Bird Vauxhall Corsa Gsi
Ben Power Ford KA
Phil Collard Lotus Elise Duratec
Julian Godfrey Ford Fiesta ST (Fwd Div1a car)
Liam Doran Ford Fiesta ST Rwd
Mike Howlin Ford Fiesta ST Rwd
Aiden McCullagh Peugeot 206 Cosworth
David Binks BMW Mini Turbo

With all the above cars and those already competing it shouldn't be hard to get 20-25 supercars and 20ish super modified car to each BRC event.

Also with each BRC event listed with the FIA, this allows drivers from any EU country to come and comete, lets hope they do, to take on the best in Britain.

These numbers culd be further increased if some more of the Irish take up the BRC challenge.

Any more news or thoughts??

Has it happens I go to a number of events through out the year here and abroad! So yes I have seen the Metro a number of times Yes it can still shift! but surley When your competing with the new generation of Supercars in BRC, up to date machinery would surely bring in more interest/ sponsership to compete in the ERC,Open Series! Why restrict your self to one Championship with an 80's Car when everyone else around you has moved on!!! Just ask Pat Doran and the RS200 he know moved on too the Fiesta and now George has the new 307 i think that says it all!
Future is bright in Rallycross best its ever been in a number of years how bouts we all move with the times, I will gladly remember the past in the late 80's with the RS's ,6r4's, Audis, T16's and tell my 3yr old son all about them, Internations The Grand Prix ,European Rounds in Ireland and England.
But the Future is where its at and I know he will enjoy this time just as much as i did then.

Not everyone can afford new cars
Look at Andy Grant had his Escort for god knows how long

Lawrence Gibson did tell me ages ago he was condsidering moving to using a Lancer for Rallycross.
If the car is still allowed in the sport whats the harm in still allowing them compete and it must be embarrasing to other drivers who have all singing dancing cars to be beaten by a car that was produced back in 85

Too listen to a 6R4 round the Rallycross circuits is a noise in itself compared to the turbo cars

i agree, was at the 1st irish round and as nice as georges 307 is the 6r4 is more exciting to watch and sounds 10 times better so i for one hope 6r4s continue to show up for events.

The only way the 6R4 will disappear is if it is effectively legislated out of existence though restrictors or weight limits... people drive them because they're still a hell of a scream to drive (and watch)

The new v. old debate is an interesting one. The Open Series started with the [sensible] aim of producing a series for exclusively modern cars. Yet ironically they've found that their historic class is by far the greatest success! Did you notice the number of people who left after the Revivals final yesterday? Not sure what that says...
