If you've read the Westie interview in The Times he says that Vauxhall, Peugeot and MG Rover are works teams this year while Volvo are testing and he's pretty confident Ford will be there in 2002. And he also says the long term future is trans-European. Does that mean all over Europe?

He probably means the formula will be adopted throughout Europe as the standard class.

That sounds kinda odd Ford would compete among themselves? Have both Volvo and Ford competing together? I can't see that happening? Even VW eventually pulled Seat out of the British rally series.

OTOH, I'm not against it either!! But I can't see that happening...

I cannot ither, I mean, Ford pulled Volvo out of BTCC 1999 so that the two makes would not compete against each other...

Ford and Volvo have been competeing together in the BTCC for years , so it ain't unusual. It was probably too expensive for them to continue both programmes so they pulled out the Volvo's [ shame]. So it would be more likely to run both teams again as the costs are much lower now. But , what car would Ford run as the Focus is doing WRC and the Mondeo is too big really?

Exactly. Do you think Ford would have won it so easy last year if Volvo had still been there?

Pink69, when Volvo and Ford were racing against each other earlier Ford didnt own Volvo...

And, it was not becasue it was to expensive. Ford confirmed that it was because they didnt want them to competet against each other...

That just proves that Ford knew that they wouldn't have won last year had Volvo competed. When Volvo returns and possibly Ford it will probably be the same again.

hmmm, wait a minute. You said "when Volvo returns..." Who said that Volvo will return to the BTCC.

The only thing that has been said on where Volvo will race is that they are looking on the opportunities to compete in the ETCC...

Pity its too short. Aren't Ford making a Focus Coupe? I've seen pictures of a cabriolet and that must be based on a coupe/saloon.

Yeah but the Audi TT in the DTM doesn't meet the regulation length but they allow them to race anyway. (i think it could be cus they aren't a works team or are they)

Abt Sportsline is technically a privateer team, albeit with a bit of guidance from Audi.

They've lengthened the wheelbase this year, so it's as long as the Astras. Shame it now looks like a stretched, squashed Beetle, rather than just a squashed Beetle.
