2014 British F3 Silly Season
Just thought that, with all of the news surrounding the revamped British F3 series for next season, and some teams already expressing their interests, it's that time of the season!
Mid-August is when the silly season really kicks off, as teams and drivers start to look ahead to the following season. To start off with in Brit F3, JTR and T-Sport are looking to run in the series. Dan Cammish with JTR anyone? |

He has the talent to be a success I suppose. Has he given up on F1 since his Formula Renault crash then? BTCC seems like a big ask though...
JTR could run Sam Brabham, who's been impressive. Fortec have a driver signed for next season... |

In the 80's there was a successful scheme called "Racing For Britain" and a lot of the drivers that were beneficiaries of that scheme went on to have great professional careers and many are still making a very nice living from the sport now. It's a shame now that they have made it that they are not so interested in seeing the scheme re-launched! |

T-Sport likely to return too. I don't know the drivers, but I get the feeling JTR will get Sam Brabham.
Meanwhile, BARC FR champ Chris Middlehurst said he wants to race in Europe, whilst Weiron Tan is loaded and drives for Fortec right now... |

Weiron definitely isn't 'loaded' and is most likely to race in Europe.
I very much doubt if Sam Brabham would move into F3 after just one season in cars, a year in FR NEC would be much more useful for his development, at this stage of his career. Honestly, wild speculation doesn't help anyone, much better to have an informed, fact based discussion. |

Brit F3 isn't going to be European F3, just a step below.

My 2014 Brit F3 calendar (no order):
Spa-Francorchamps Brands Hatch GP Donington Park GP Silverstone GP Oulton Park International Snetterton 300 I reckon that, in some order, these 6 will be circuits on the calendar. Replacing Snetterton with Rockingham, or maybe even Thruxton of Croft, is the only one that I'm unsure about. Unless they really want to make it a national series... |

I think Silverstone, Brands and Donington would be givens. I'd imagine that Oulton and/or Rockingham would have a reasonable chance of being included. MN reported this week that a Thruxton race was being considered (and potentially Anglesey in the years ahead).

Thruxton isn't only an outrageous circuit, but it's my home circuit so I'll be pleased for them to return.

I expect they will just shadow the British GT as they previously have.
Assuming that doesn't change in 2014, it means: Easter Meet: Oulton Park (Island, rather than International for the F3 cars) Rockingham Silverstone Brands Hatch Snetterton Donington Then this year the British GT are at Zandvoort, I wonder if they would go to Spa in 2014 along with the F3? |

T-Sport are entering Spike Goddard for the Nurburgring finale... ...will be interesting to see what he can do. A potential 2014 campaign here?
Alfonso Celis could be one of Fortec's drivers, with Matt Parry and Jack Aitken both confirming a FR Eurocup campaing next season... ...doesn't mean Parry won't do the odd round though... |

Good to see Thruxton back in the calendar. But I guess budgets are still going to be up around the £300k mark so I wonder what grids will be like? |

2014 British Formula 3 calendar
May 3-4 Rockingham (GB) TBA Silverstone (GB) June 21-22 Snetterton (GB) July 25-26 Spa (B) TBA Thruxton (GB) August 30-31 Brands Hatch (GB) September 13-14 Donington Park (GB) Should be good fun, and I will mark the Thruxton date in my diary as soon as it is released. I reckon BARC are happy. Surprised to see no Oulton Easter Weekend, but I suppose the GTs will probably run that. Any idea about support categories/headliners outside of the Spa 24 Hours? On the Brit F3 website, it states "And in another boost to the series, British F3 will predominantly share headline billing at five of the 2014 rounds." People saying already that Sun Zheng could return for the top class, but this is just talk. National Class backmarker William Barbosa, the Colombian karter, is likely to run for West-Tec next season, and Alfonso Celis Jr is looking for a 2014 campaign too. |

Well, after watching highlights of the 2013 finale on Channel 4 this morning, Zheng said he'd like to return and do the National Class.
Carlin have 3 older cars confirmed. |

I can too, which wouldn't be bad. But I'd like to see some genuine promising talents on the grid next season, so hopefully some guys from FR in Europe and maybe F4. But Parry and Aitken have already said that they're in the FR Eurocup next season, Chris Middlehurst will move out to Europe, Dan Cammish into BTCC (if all goes well). Rowland maybe? Racing Steps have gone into Brit F3 before. Look at Jack Harvey.
Nyck de Vries may use his McLaren links to race in the UK? Mikko Pakari with Fortec perhaps? |

(Also, given the very late Easter, I wonder if this meeting will be run earlier in the season so as not to mess up the British GT calendar?) |

Right, so Fortec mentioned running 3 cars. Carlins will run 3 cars in the series. Double R are likely to stay (not sure how many cars), and West-Tec are almost guarantees. T-Sport and JTR will likely run 2 cars each, with Performance going to run 2 cars if any.
Fortec - Alfonso Celis, Jr - ??? - ??? Carlin - Nicholas Latifi? - Zhi Cong Li? - Jake Hughes? Double R - Sean Gelael? - ??? T-Sport - Spike Goddard? - ??? Performace - Thomas Jager? - ??? West-Tec - William Barbosa - ??? - ??? |

Hmm, some potential issues already....
"Single-seater powerhouse Fortec Motorsport is to lobby for a weight break for the Dallara F312 chassis in next year's British Formula 3 Championship. The current-generation cars will compete alongside older-spec 2008-11 cars in British F3's top class, but Fortec claims that the newer cars are at a significant disadvantage." http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/110639 Autosport had some comparisons..
