Kimi 2002 = Button 2001
Hey everybody. Great forum you've got here, one of the best around. Anyway, I've been a regular here since the pre-season testing. What I've noticed is that most people slagged RD for choosing KR instead of Nick. And that DC will wipe the floor with KR. Well, qualifying stands at 5-3. Kimi's favor. And one can make valid reasons for DC outqualifying KR at Melbourne, Interlagos and at Monaco. At Melbourne, at the latter part of the qualifying session, rain WAS starting to fall. And the fact the Kimi was keeping pace witht the Williams of JPM was for me pretty impressive, considering the form Mclaren is at right now. At Interlagos, Kimi had problems for most of the session, he had to switch to the T-car to record his best run, which was just a few thousandths of a second behind DC. At Monaco, Kimi had to use DC's T-car, nuff said. Ok, I admit that the reason for his using DC's T-car was for his numerous mistakes that destroyed most of his cars. But still, I'm pretty sure it could have been Kimi on pole at Monaco, so bring on Hungary!
One more thing, the fact that DC won the Monaco GP makes Kimi's season more phenomenal....it means the DC is still the old DC, a proven race winner that was the only one to take the fight to MS last year in inferior equipment (before the Mclaren gremlins struck of course). This is a guy with probably the least amount of experience prior to coming to F1 and already he is regularly outpacing a proven winner (races that is...not championships Ok?!?). The fact that DC has more points is irrelevant, Kimi suffered from tremendous bad luck through the early part of the season. None of which was his fault. So we need not go into that. Sorry for the extra long post folks, just wanted to give my reasons for believing that Kimi will be the youngest WDC ever. Looking forward to good debates with you fellas. Oh, and by the way, I think Senna was the best ever, and that MS isn't even as good as Prost. MS maybe is on the third tier of multiple WDC, like Piquet etc.. So anyway, thanks in advance for the replies. Looking forward to reactions to this post. Last edited by MarcDaddy; 13 Jun 2002 at 07:00. |

wasnt Button **** in 2001 though? I dont understand the Button link. Button was inconsistent in 2000 too. Raikkonen has been much better.

actually David, i was referring to the obvious error made by those people that said that Kimi's 2002 season would be similar to Button's 2001, meaning consistently being outpaced by your teammate

Hmmm, not sure if I agree with your analysis Marcdaddy, but welcome to the forum.

exactly daisy...what i was pointing out was that most people were writing kimi off, saying that he'll be demolished by dc, in the same way fisi did to button last year, which obviously is not the case. i was just wondering where all these people are, now that kimi is looking stronger with each gp.

The thing about Kimi is he's very headstrong. No, he's not Mr Personality when it comes to sponsors or the media, but behind the scenes he's a terrificly hard working, particularly when with the engineers.
The boy just wants to race: the fame, the money and the toys aren't the reasons he wants to be in F1. People said his lack of experience would count against him when it came to setting up the car. Well if he's still not got to grips with this, woe betide DC when he does. In terms of natural ability, he's in a different league to Coulthard. It won't quite seem right if McLaren's only race winner in 2002 turns out to be its second fastest driver. |
