Fantastic picture on the LMP! Maybe in the future, Rebellion would get a shot on winning Daytona with their bespoke DP for 2016... if they win Le Mans next year.

Tech tidbit on their 2013 Lola--Rebellion seem to have been inspired by HPD, and they're running a similar fence on the outboard front diffuser similar to what HPD have run to replace the normal dive planes.

The manufacturers are bringing brand new cars next year. This has been discussed in the Toyota and Audi threads. If Rebellion can afford two new cars you can be sure Toyota and Audi can.

Mal probably referred to the unknown(s) related to the new regs and cars...

No matter that the cars are all-new, I don't see Rebellion having a chance against the factories, due to testing budgets.

Unless, of course, the new formula Really works and the weight, fuel, and energy breaks make privateers truly equal with factory cars, which would be great, but I am not sure how the factories might respond.

Maybe I'm not understanding this correctly, but wouldn't this be a conflict of interest for Oreca? They will be running the factory Toyota and designing and building the Rebellion which will compete directly with the Toyotas.

Toyota are helped by Oreca crew staff only.

The development of the car is only toyota.

When toyota have their one crew members ready they will cease Oreca colaboration i think.

As far as I've undestood Oreca only provides operational support for Toyota i.e. some racing team personnel. Rebellion wants to use Oreca's engineering side, not the racing operations side, so basically there is no conflict of interest.

And then, it could also be a contingency plan for Toyota. Let's say the ACO screws up the equation in favor of the small guys (think Mazda 1991) and Rebellion has an advantage - that way they can at least claim that it was a car with a Toyota engine that won.

Conflict of interest of the other sort might be something to keep an eye on - such as the F1 Sauber/Ferrari relationship.

Rebellion won't do hybrid. The Toyota engine theyll run is a customer engine for the new fuel flow allowance. The only conflict would be them beating Toyota on track imo. But two different Toyota powered teams is just better odds for a Toyota win.

Yes. In the same way that the Joest run Jaguar in 1996 and 1997 was a 'Porsche' victory.

They are using Toyota power exclusively outside the factory team. So far as we know it will stay this way next year. Toyota would definitely play up their ties if Rebellion won, it would be mutual on Rebellion's side imo. Nissan plays up their wins with customer chassis' using their engine.

The factories will have an advantage in testing and in resources, but there is a chance, however small, that the new regs might level things out a bit. Dome and Oreca are respected names with some success. Panoz, which according to the Doctor had a fraction of the budget of the Audi, BMW and Cadillac LMP budgets won some races in ALMS back in the day.

Whether or not Dome, Rebellion/Oreca or Caterham actually build cars remains to be seen and press releases are much easier and cheaper, but the new rule set appears to have generated some enthusiasm. If the economy will cooperate, maybe we'll get to see P1 grids in WEC and Le Mans. There were 20 LMP900 cars on the grid at Le Mans in 2000 along with six LMP 675s, which in theory were supposed to be able to compete for overall wins. Obviously, Audi dominated that race, but it was OK by me, even though Audi was becoming the team "you love to hate", because there were so many cars. (I watched all 23 hours of the SPEED broadcast, only napping for an hour during the NASCAR truck qualifying.) Hopefully, the new regs will result in more cars.

Exactly, with new regs there is always the chance that a clever designer can steal an edge before the relentless development of the factories testing programmes takes over

"The most important factor though behind our decision. Not just on the powerplant but on the whole programme, is the new regulations, and it isn’t a case of what it says, but rather what it doesn’t say. The current regulations have determined that a 2% performance gap is acceptable between the factory cars and that for private teams like ours. That regulation has been omitted for the new regulations, and by definition it is now regarded as unacceptable to have such a gap in performance."
Hmm. Is that really the correct interpretation?

Let the speculation begin - Who gets Mr. Jani's desireable P1 seat at Rebellion in 2014?
I would like to see Lucas Luhr if Muscle Milk doesn't move over to the WEC. Nic Minassian would be good too.

I think (/hope) they'll go for youth instead. There are guys like Oliver Turvey, Brendon Hartley and Alex Brundle who stand out from the next generation. I think I rate Turvey the highest.

But then again they are going to need to replace at least two drivers when all is said and done. If we're just throwing names out there maybe they could take a look at Olivier Pla.

Interesting one with the likes of Brundle and Pla - would they see Rebellion as a better bet than an Oak LMP1 - especially after the monumentally polished performance that Oak brought to bear over the weekend?
