First round was this weekend.
Saw only a few snippets of race 2 but lots of good racing between Paffet, Rocky and Glock.

Glock vs Paffett was a great battle

It seems that these cars with less aero are working well...let's see in the next rounds

Glock is a lost talent in F1, if only. And I agree, less downforce is the way forward, nothing wrong with these high performance cars.

And they should have figured it out a long time ago. Spending money in aerodinamics is a kill in Motorsport in my opinion.

It seems Berger is talking to Volvo (source Italiaracing)

Race 2 was a really great race, it only took some common sense in the regulations and here we are. Let's hope it's not too little, too late.

Surely Volvo would want some rule stability (at least three years?), which would kick Class 1 a long way down the road.

It's only one race, calm down. Let's judge the entire season.

That being said, really enjoyed race 2 and the majority of the 2017 season.

Well it’s a good start, I’m sure the rest of the season will be as good. Sounds like close racing is back in the series judging by the comments

Yes, it definitely is, the second race was epic. I've not seen the whole race one so I can't judge on that. A good decision that was made is that the performance weights were scrapped for this year. From 2019 DTM cars should be even less aero-dependant and without DRS but what we have now is still a good step in the right direction.

DTM is now becoming what tin tops should be about, close racing. DRS should be scrapped for 2019, but at the moment it’s doing fine

I doubt we’ll even have a DTM in 2019. Gerhard says it’s unbelievable that no other manufacturers are interested, but, realistically, who is there? Opel? Would be great, but PSA are heavily committed elsewhere, and it comes back to rules stability.

I think some are being cynical. Maybe Berger needs a change of tact though. Hopefully some will be persuaded. You never know, the unexpected could happen

I just don’t see who there is out there to show interest, unless Ford wanted to flog the Mustang (which would be great). And there’s so much confusion over where the rules are heading. Are we adopting “Class One” - whatever that means? Two-litre turbos? Fastback/coupé body styles? Just import the Super GT regulations in their entirety?

I'm afraid DTM can cease at the end of 2019 or even 2018 if no manufacturer shows up. Audi and BMW can't field ten car each as it was the case in the past with Mercedes and Audi. I'm surprised that no Japanese manufacturer is willing to join, especially Honda that is involved in Super GT and was involved in WTCC so it means that they could replace WTCC with DTM as their major international touring car series. The same could be with Volvo. I really don't understand claims that DTM is too German either. Ok, the 'heart' of DTM is in Germany and there are four races there but judging by the entry list, the series is not loaded with German drivers and the races are watched all around the world. It's a huge shame to see Mercedes go and would be sad to see DTM disappear.

The dream would be a conjunction between Super GT and DTM, but the Japanese would not come off from Super GT to join a world series

Difficult situation, unless Mercedes rethink his position

I was at the Hockenheim race this weekend.
The DTM racing was good, shame the side program was so poor...

No more Porsche Cup...

Only a Audi R8 cup, no noise, no real racecars...
DRM, touringcars from the 70's where not there.
Formula 4, not my cup of thea
A bus with a jet engine... a shame for dragracing.

Sadly the DTM is a National Series that has been propped up by the German manufacturers. It is too expensive and not relevant to road cars. Adding Berger was the last straw before breaking the camels back. He is a good driver and thats it

The irony is that I think a big manufacturer which showed a sniff of interest in the DTM (Ford, Nissan, Honda) could get the rulemakers to do pretty much whatever they wanted to bring them on board. A NISMO programme with the GT-R would seem to me a no-brainer.
