At round 3 the leader has lost some points. The first race was wet and at the start Frolov's BMW was turned round by Lukoil Granta and one of the Seats. In fact that driver (Artyom Eremin) won the race but later got a time penalty and lost some places. So Nikolay Karamyshev got the first place and this is a great come-back for a very strong driver. As you know he took the 1st place in SP-class of ETCC this year. And only a year before doctors were very pessimistic about his sporting career as he had three fingers amputated after a paintball accident.
Second race was more predictable as Frolov quickly moved through the field and took another victory.
Note that drivers used a short 2670m "motorbike" version of the track, without 270-degree a-la Oschersleben first turn.

I'm hearing rumours that Yuri Semenchev has had a serious accident today. Things are sounding very worrying. Hard to find any info though, so if anyone knows anything...

It all happened on lap 2 in the last turn - some sort of Parabolica. Right turn with rather big radius, so the speed was high enough. At the RRC site they write that Yuri defended his position, the competitor has no way to go and pushed the car from the track. Yuri's car moved sideways, hit into the guardrail junction by the driver's side and then rolled. There's no mention weather there was any tyre barrier.
Yuri was 49 and he began racing only a year ago.

Awful news. Not what we expect in touring cars these days, you take safety for granted. Thoughts to the family.

Indeed, hopefully everyone can learn from this for the future. It's terrible to hear news like this, my wishes go out to Yuri and his kin.

Too be honest, those S2000 cars don't look like the safest cars around here. Thankfully we didn't have any major t-bone crashes in the last couple of years, because the doors look pretty fragile to me.

But it's always bad when a man dies doing what he liked to do best, racing. Rest in peace!

I've talked to a team that made a 1,6T Priora. It's a "domestic product" but shows the way RRC can go after S2000 machinery became too old to race.

All the exterior bits are from WTCC Priora. But its' engine is made by Team80 - based on their tuning experience. And rear suspension is closer to a serial one, without any multilink arms.

Excuse me for digging this thread, but some news from Russian Championship. I still don't know how it's going to be named this year, as it seems that bosses are new - looks like there's a strong helping hand from SMP (yes, that SMP that are presented in ETCC, CET, Blancpain, FIA WEC, Indicar and numerous junior formulae champs) and some bits should be changed.
There're new cars too. "PSM Team80" has bought a new engine stand and has scanned Kia Rio hatch in 3D to make all papers for homologation in 1600 Touring Light category. I think Rio is still not presented in racing in Europe.
