The very first races at Sochi Autodrom. Now the championship is known as RRS (Russian Racing Series).
Live stream at official page -
http://рскг.рф/stream/?stream_stage=...lator=video_29
Times are GMT+4 (Moscow time).
Really recommend races at 16.45 and 13.45 - 30+ cars for 1600 class.

Cool to listen to Mark Podolsky - commentator and Automotive Institute lecturer where I've studied.

Does anyone have a link to photos of the GT championship I've heard mentioned on this thread?

Unfortunately, it was a short-lived project, having only one season (2012). Usual grid was made by pair of Ferraris, pair Ariel Atoms and a Radical. Some Seat Leons were there too just for numbers. There was an attempt to invite those who compete in time-attacks but the idea hasn't been materialized. So there're only few photos at previous RRC site - http://www.raf-rrc.ru/photo/36/page1 (no special page for a GT race, just photos from a racing day).

Not only a size but variety too: Peugeot 208, Renault Twingo, two generations of Ford Fiesta, VW Polo, Seat Ibiza, Kia Rio, Lada Kalina.

In 1600, two types of cars: R2B (about 10-12 cars); other vehicles for <National>, mostly Lada Kalina, they are weaker than 50 horsepower, riding in a separate competition.

Lukoil is acting as usual, buying the newest machinery. And whom have they raced against? Just some lads who drove some second hand BMWs and private Lada Grantas. I really think that it's not an achievement.

With all Russian money spend in international racing it's a bit surprising national racing is not bigger.

For lots of reasons autosport at national level remains just as a Sunday hobby without any strong hierarchy or interest from manufacturers or factories and, the main fact, sponsors. A huge interest in investments was in 2000's when there were some tax indulgences for those who advertise through sports. Nowadays it's still far from professional level. I've talked to a team which had built a racing version of Kia for a 1600 class and they say there're only 2 or 3 teams who can actually build a car themselves. So, no interest from serious factories. It won't be sad if we had no racing history, but back in 50's or 70's autosport was very popular, karting was a usual hobby for schoolchildren.

what happened to the Lada Grantas from last year? or AMG Motorsport who entered 5 320si?`

hoped there would be a few TC2 cars on th grid, instead of an E46.

All Grantas are in Super Production class as they have only 240 hp. But the very first race (Nizhnii Novgorod - http://news.sportbox.ru/Vidy_sporta/...Obzor_1_go_dna - hope, it's not geoblocked) proved that clever strategy in rainy conditions helps Granta to beat TCR Leons.
As for A.M.G. - they are still there, as youngster Vitaly Larionov won the race. TC2 are too expensive, I think, and not very repairable.

I think it's a numbers game as they include drivers from MitJet series in their sum. And some local drivers boosted the grid in 1600 classes. But there're lots of locals participating in championship that uses Kazan-Canyon as the main track, so they know it very well. So, all in all it's not down to numbers, but to the quality. And this time there were some very optimistic manoeuvres over there. They should calm down a bit.

Second year in a row SMP Racing Series is the promoter of the Russian ring races, united Championship and Cup of Russia. During this time, SMP RSKG demonstrated development in all areas, even in times of crisis.
