The fact that people (not just locals) will attempt to get near the public road sections anyway is probably the main thing preventing them just running behind closed doors as the easy option, they'd need more crowd marshals/security than if they had paying punters.

That is why it could not be run "behind closed doors", yes limited numbers perhaps but impossible to police/marshal the whole track to stop people watching from area's that are not part of the closed circuit area.

It will almost certainly be limited numbers - its is just how they select - my thoughts are that it will be one of 3 ways or a combination of these:
1/ Locals or local region only
2/ ACO members only
3/ people who have bought tickets already

Yes, teams with their mechanics, guests and VIPs, and marhalls and all people necessary to run the race and you reach the total of 5,000 which is the limit of gatherings in France today.

Well the food in french hospitals was good until they found out i was diabetic, then it became bland and almost uneatable. However the french need some help about breakfast, they had no idea what a "full monty" was. They also served coffee in bowls which when you are flat on your back are the easiest way to burn your face neck and chest.

So, as things stand, if you have your tickets already - you're in.....

Ticket sales have been suspended in the hope that conditions improve, enabling current restrictions on large crowds to be lifted. Only ACO members* and anyone who already holds a ticket for the race will be admitted to the circuit as a spectator. ACO members, spectators and authorised resellers who have already booked and paid for grandstand tickets, camping areas, parking spaces or ACO member hospitality areas may purchase the corresponding tickets for the race. Please contact ACO customer services (serviceclients@lemans.org).

Yes, I think we could see plenty of Ebay activity and boosted sales for the agencies who can still sell the tickets they bought. Everything does depend on the large gathering limitation being lifted, but the ACO wouldn't have made this announcement unless they were sure it will be.

Any agency who stocked up on tickets is on to a winner...

I don't know what other firms have done, but we always get our tickets from 'Just Tickets' and they have been enforcing their T&Cs on refunds for the first time ever (they claim) and charging a 30% cancellation fee, so I suspect a large number of their customers (like us) have been holding onto their bookings.

This feels like a logical interim step. The ACO surely had to make a gesture like this towards thinning the numbers. I guess now the work begins for them on how you go about distancing grandstands, campsites, food vendors etc. It still doesn't fill me with great confidence, but it's a huddle of sorts cleared.

Really makes you wonder how many tickets they've actually sold though...
