Cybers, you had better go as a bike racer! Specifically with that poor fellow I saw last night that said "If I ever want to do this again, please stop me!"

Here's a gallery - no pictures from the event itself though.

Sweet! I'll start calling around to manufacturers, see if maybe Mazda wants to support a completely unproven team.

Any idea where I can actually find technical regs for the Dakar? It's always fun to bench race, and I'd love to see where the 2wd T3 buggies get such an advantage.

The regs are on the official site - www.dakar.com
If you need a car these folks will build you one - www.hekla.at

I found sporting regs, but no technical regs.

Hmm... Pretty cool vehicle they build there, but I think I'd rather build a true buggy and go for the overall win, or at least the amateur and first-time trophies.

Despite the success that's been had with the 2wd, my gut tells me a 4wd buggy with a turbodiesel'd be the hottest ticket.

As far as i know the buggies fall under the T3 category, which only allows 2WD, although a couple of years ago 4WD was allowed, which catered for cars like the Citroen.

On the trucks, they showed some old footage from '88 or '89 on one of the end-of-day reviewss, where one of the trucks was passing on of the Peugeot 405T16's (effectively a Group B car) on a pretty straight and flat peice of land.

was strange to see the Schlesser buggy with Ford power .. is it also Diesel ... I remember te ZX .. man those car looked extremely porpose buit ... for the dunes.... still the truks are very fast ... probably faster than meny cars

last stage truks 23' 26"
cars fastest 18' 26" and 23.26 would put him 51 .. but on the really hard stages could be a lot closer
the Bikes 19' 42"

Very nice car in fact; either that or a Kamaz, or Tatra, truck I'd reckon. Those are the classiest rides.
The buggies are in fact 2WD only. Now, if I could find those regs... - the FIA and SCORE regulations are employed I believe; so look for their websites.
I see there is a V6 Suzuki (in America that used to be the Geo, now it's Chevrolet right?) in the event as well; I wonder if that will make it to the finish. Relatively small car.
So many bikers (and the lone Quad man) have switched to 4 wheels now. Feeling the effects of age perhaps?

okay, check fia.com under technical Regulations-Apendix J: Articles 281-284 for the base rules, at least for this year anyway.

I'm thinking...

Jeep Liberty Sport, V6 engine totally punched out, 4wd, with a perfect Power/weight ratio. I think it's do-able, with some help from D-C.

LOL! I follow the Dakar every year - it's a great way to start the motorsport year. And we have Pål Anders Ullevålseter currently 10th in the bikes in his second year on the Dakar...

Richard Sanct is my man on the bikes! Is Nani Roma paying somebody for all the free press? Every time I turn around there he is!

Schlesser is out! Hurrah!

And HOW did those VW boys survive that crash! That was almost as bad as Burns' crash in Finland!

P.S. Did anyone hear how that boy is that was hit by the truck yesterday on his quad? Last I heard he was unconscious at the scene.

N.B. Did the Jaguar finish?
