Martin Ogilvie designer of fantastic cars (like my ones) is seeking sponsorship/funding/or paydriver for his 4wd 500bhp electric hillclimb project.
Anyone interested, or with contacts can get in touch with him by PMing me or the mods Last edited by b1ackcr0w; 8 Mar 2007 at 00:04. |

Electric Hillclimber
Hi-Martin Ogilvie here,
Project is to make a 400kw hillclimber with separate motor for each corner and active motor control to optimise starts, cornering and regen braking. MSA have added a category in the regs at my request a year ago, but needs special application for each event, and I have to come up with some rules and safety regs! Problem is, as always, finance, as it wont be cheap. So, lads, anyone with contacts , or with a few grand to spare, please let us know. |

Hi Martin, I've read about your work in RCE. Won't the front drive be a bit tight on an open wheeler? Have you considered a sports libre chassis?

I always thought the answer to Willem Toet's turbo engine was a "barely" sports libre with 4 wheel drive.
I would be interested to see what the comparison of losses between a mechanical transmission & electrical transmission would be. Worthwhile noting that the aircraft engine industry is going away from having a gearbox to drive all the accessories to a huge generator then lots of motors to drive everything. All in the interests of reducing losses, weight etc |

What advantages?

I could see the advantages in a Sports Libre where the weight gain of 4-w-d might well be offset by being able to run a smaller lightweight car, but in the single seaters I think 4-w-d has had its day. |

Martin has had no joy on this car as yet, he has been in talks with a few companies but has not been able to get anything up and going. Racecar engineering has came out with a certain company advertising there plans for a electric car 1 make series, I suppose this is how good business is done!!

It was interesting looking at the Westfield (or was it Caterham? They all look the same anyway) electric car project on their stand at Autosport.
Chatted to the new boss about their future plans for it. |

On paper the concept looks extremley suited to hillclimbing provided the weight can be kept fairly low.... The almost constant torque and effective CVT should be an advantage.... hope the project doesn;t fade away like so many others....
