Did anyone else at Pukekohe notice that..

Max Wilson's WOW car was incredibly LOUD.
It was quite a few db louder than every other car, at least at Placemakers corner.
What causes that I wonder, other than broken exhausts.
Why do some of the cars seem to flame more than others. The HRT's often have flaming exhausts, The SBR's very rarely
Why's that?

Different fuel mixtures? I notice the SBR engines puff a lot of black smoke, whereas HRT etc. dont seem to.

I would say that Maxs' car, and to a certain extent Simon Wills car sound so loud is because of the exhaust system that Dynamik/Longhurst Racing are using on there cars. Also its probably not the fuel mixture that makes more black smoke come out of the SBR cars, as it is all the same fuel for everycar, but it probably would have something to do with the fuel configuration or some sort of filter?

The amont of fuel that goes into the motor is controlled by the computer. Teams can run the car rich, which will give the black soot look.

Teams all so put alot of Fuel into the engine on the over run or a closed throttle, by doing this they cool the piston off but all so cause the flame you often see.

This can all so be acheived by different overlaps on camshafts

could have been Wills that was noisy, although it did sound like Max was the loudest on Sunday. They seemed to be circulating together on the track

I drove one of the 95 Dick Johnson cars that is over here in the UK. It has a dial on the dash which can change the ignition and fuel map. The drivers can change this for different situations. This will control the timing and amount of fuel being put into the engine. We ran different maps for start up, cold running , pace car laps, and pit lane.
As Group 'C' explained it is all in the "black box".

As Max's car is sponsored by 'WOW' Sight and Sound the sponsorship included a good sound system. Max simply turned up the volume on the engine!

maybe it's a driver style thing too, as I noticed that Jason Bright sent a few flames out of the side of his FPR falcoon, as he always did in a Holden.
