Ferrari's infraction not penalty worthy?
Sorry if this is on another thread (I searched but could've missed it) but I thought I saw on the Chinese coverage 2 infractions. One was Alonso's DRS working in a restricted section of track and the other was Massa's pit out lane line crossing. I haven't seen a mention of it anywhere, other than the replays on SPEED during the race. What goes on?

The DRS was an FIA glitch.
Everyone crossed the line you refer to. |

I don't think every pit-exit by every driver was televised - so are you sure about that?
I don't recall seeing any other driver cross the line, but maybe you could point me to one other that did? Then I will watch it again...... However surprised I was to see Massa do it, I don't think there was any advantage or danger as a result of his crossing the line, but rules are rules (even if the result is a penalty for every driver....) |

It was clarified to the drivers which lines were and weren't acceptable to cross. Not very pit line in the world causes a penalty. The drivers knew.
I don't think knowlesy meant everyone literally. |

I thought Brundle or Coulthard made it clear when showing Massa crossing the line on TV that it was not an offence and that the drivers were informed about it in the breifing.

What Ferrari's infractions ? They did once again, I knew it ! That's outrageous how they got away with those infractions !
Aaaaffff... F1 used to be so fun, now even Ferrari is not making anything... wrong. But I still think Teflonso might know something to blackmail someone, just in case... |

Was there not another line to the left of that line before the racetrack which then merged further down the road. I thought that's what it looked like, and assumed the outside line was the one that mattered. I might be wrong, but that may be the case.

Why was the line there if you're allowed to cross it?
And are you sure the DRS glitch was down to the FIA, Knowlesy? That suggests that the FIA's software has the ability to operate the rear wing of all the cars. Seems a bit implausible to me. |

Well race control, FIA whatever. For that lap the software was delayed by a system glitch, so the wing opened later than it should have. It probably proved to be a disadvantage more than anything.
As for the line, I am sure that the drivers briefing will have established which line couldn't be crossed. I can't recall it exactly, but wasn't the line very narrow at pit exit, but widened once properly on track? |

I could only find one image on the web which shows the white lines at the pit exit:
http://www.f1-fans.co.uk/photos/156-...-pit-straight/ There is the 'curvy' line and the straight line. Massa crossed the curvy part before it joins the straight line, which bounds the track if you are driving down the pit wall. The boundary line between the pit and the track (i.e. where pit lane speed limits no longer apply) is where the traffic light is just before the end of the pit wall, in the shadow in the above picture. Not sure what the purpose is of the second white line which crosses both the track and the pit exit lane. Anyone know? |

For drs, isnt race controls only input is allowing the car to use it? I thought it was still driver operated on when it opens. If this is so, fernando had his finger on the button. Temporary glitch or not alanso was still pushing the button while not being in the drs zone

It shouldn't have worked outside of the DRS zone, pushed or not. It makes complete sense to hold the button, since its remotely activated anyway. It's what I would do too, tbh. |

yep, you're going to use it when you get the chance and it can't work (supposedly) otherwise, save a button on the wheel in the race and link it to the fast pedal.

Sure, if you're daft enough to hold it on the exit of a corner under heavy acceleration.

I reckon Bernie's going to start using the magic DRS button to intentionally spin cars out on fast corners...

Maggots and Becketts would be hilarious. Eau Rouge would be extremely....extreme!
Bernie may not get his sprinklers, but he may now actually have something even more sinister at his disposal. |
