go to the tcr website (tcr-series.com) and click on tcr world which gives details in a drop down menu of all the different series. but theres no mention of tcr uk. so maybe it has been canned.

If that happens then I'll have a safe punt on the series never coming into existence.

Just like the one - name already forgotten - for the old BTCC motors that Ian Harrison had a finger in. I seem to remember only one driver ever put his name to that. I've forgotten that too!

So TCR UK looks set to join the likes of SCV8, T1 and whatever that feeder formula they proposed for 2016 was called. Looks like nothing can compete with the BTCC in the UK

Ah the B-Tec Development series. Maybe they could combine the too actually - that would probably be able to attract 12-14 cars I'd imagine.

was never meant to compete with btcc. but its never going to work in the uk because its far too expensive for basically a club-racing level series that will always live in the big shadow of btcc and toca support races with no spectators, no profile, no major tv etc

Seems like these guys didn't get the message. I'd be surprised if TCR UK didn't run at least 1 event next year but I'm a complete outside so I'll wait till next year to be proved wrong |

Wonder what the support series will do?

I suspect not much. Ultimately, they are all existing series that need to race somewhere and the BRSCC presumably have the relevant circuits booked. Furthermore - with the possible exception of Knockhill, for some of the series - TCR visits circuits that the support series would normally expect to visit. As such, trying to shoehorn the support races into other club meetings may be a challenge that can be avoided - although some series may try and change the odd round.

Usually when a series is postponed it means it's never gonna happen. We'll wait and see what happens

TCR makes a lot of sense to race teams due to the flexibility of the cars and the relatively low purchase/maintenance costs but it has to appeal to drivers as well.
If I had even the lower budgets being bandied around for a TCR drive I would go for the TOCA package Ginettas or Clios instead as it's a proven commodity. TCR is in a real chicken/egg situation IMO. |

For the support series like VW Cup, they would just re-format the weekend so VW Cup is the headline act instead of TCR |

What are the TCR UK budgets compared to BTCC?

a top team would charge about half of a top BTCC team.
But TCR UK will do less than half the amount of races BTCC does (14 races v 30 races) so actually per race that makes it more expensive than BTCC and without all the big tv coverage and big crowds etc so it’s just far too expensive for what it is. TCR really needed to be on the BTCC support bill, however too many egos for that to happen.

It's a nice idea to have a feeder saloon series, but unless it gets enough exposure, it's not gonna go anywhere

The Clios and the Gin Juniors are great, the rest? Not so much. Also how is it “full”? They used to have at least another whole series because when I started going they had FRenault, Clios, Ford Credit Fiesta, Vectra V6 SRi, Formula Ford, Formula Vauxhall. I make that 6 support series. Now they have Clios, Formula 4?, Gin Juniors, Gin GT. Forgive me if I’ve miscounted but that’s 4 series. So what’s the issue? Space in the paddock?

Quite often they have to shorten the support races to get everything in if there are a couple of incidents so there's definitely not room for anymore on the package without putting the main event back to fewer races.
Personally I can see BTCC adopting the TCR technical regs in the future. NGTC cars are a big investment for something that can only be raced in one main series. |
