Inside BTCC should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid

I've spoken with Team Wilson is the past on other matters but will have a chat at Rockingham in regards to putting wheels in motion for at least a training day.

My thinking now from comments made is that rather than doing one diary article, we'll look to make it a regular feature which will possibly run next season as opposed to this one.

If there is sufficient interest, I'd be keen to do regular diary features with marshals in different roles so that the broad spectrum of marshaling is then portrayed to the fans and hopefully it would help encourage some of them to become marshals themselves.

I know that as a 'lurker' on this section of the forum, it's interesting to read some of the posts from people on things that have happened during a race weekend and think it would be good to open some of the stories up to a non-marshaling audience.

I'll be at Rockingham and Silverstone and would be willing 'jot down' anything you might find of use. I'm graded as an Experienced Marshal which usually means I'm either flagging or dealing with an incident. How would you want diaries sent to you and what would be the deadline?

Inside BTCC should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hi everyone,

First of all - huge respect to those marshals who were stuck out in the rain on Sunday. Fair to say it was a race day that was much more pleasant in the press room than it would have been trackside!

Thought I'd update you on where we stand for those who responded to our original comments.

I spent time talking with Peter from Team Wilson on both Saturday and Sunday and he is now going to help organise to attend a training day at Oulton Park during the off season to act as the first part of an ongoing series of features to help promote marshaling and the work you all do to keep motorsport in the UK going.

He has suggested some people to speak to, which I'll do in due course, to help formulate a plan for next season whereby we'll look to run articles on the various different marshal roles.

Thanks again to those who have expressed an interest or made suggestions so far.

Thanks for updating us on this. As a fan of the tourers and Inside BTCC, I'm well pleased that you'll be coming to Oulton Park to see us all at our training event (hopefully).

As we know, Inside BTCC is aimed at fans and people involved in that series but it'd be good to let the layperson see what us around the track really do on a raceday, apart from when something "interesting" happens. And also where-else we are doing it too.

Elliot.

It should be interesting on Nov 24th with a motor bike race meeting and a car race meeting on the same day. Naagh, that couldn't happen.

If I was a betting man, I'd turn up at Anglesey on 2nd December

Hopefully this is still "on Topic"

There may be some that might ask if part of the documentary shouldn't be set aside to find out why so many Marshals (me included) won't go anywhere near the BTTC whilst others love it and sometimes even do little else.
I bet there are a dozen different reasons each with an opposite it the other camp:
Here are some (IMHO):
Too crowded on post/lots of mates on post
Bad driving standards/spills and thrills
Not much to do given the number of Marshals on post/Easy day given the number of Marshals on post.
Lots of prima donnas trying to get on the tv/Opportunity to get on the tv

and so on.

While I'm in the 'won't touch it with a bargepole camp' I suggest it's not reasonable to ask a publication which specialises in BTCC to run an article on why some of us won't go near it. Not unless the problem was with too few marshals rather than too many.

Hi guys,

About time we updated the thread to let you know what the deal is with our marshals articles - if you haven't seen either of them so far.

Issue 18 of the eMag, which was the season preview, included an interview with Chris Hobson: http://www.insidebtcc.com/issue-18-get-ready-to-rumble/

Issue 19, released today, includes an article on Simon Morrell from the BRSCC's Rescue Unit: http://www.insidebtcc.com/issue-19-plato-out-front/

We have more planned but welcome any ideas/feedback etc

Excellent stuff.

We don't do BTCC nowadays but if you want an insight from a 20+ year marshal who has probably done most disciplines over all those years, then get in touch.
