Was it to do with Rob Cox-Allinson's return to racing after 10 years. He only completed 2 laps in practice, started with a 10 second penalty and finished second.

it used Ethanol or Methanol?

I think most pre war race cars used something similliar and it was used in the US long before, so its a bit of a shot in the dark.
