Martin Bull should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Le Mans - who's good in the wet?

I notice from the other thread that the forecast seems to deteriorating by the day, so the thought struck me : who's good in the wet these days ?

Again - I'm 'way out of touch..way back when, there were always guys like Peterson, Ickx, etc who could outclass the field in the wet through sheer car-control.

Is it the same these days, or has technology taken over that part of the equation ?

Careful! There are those on this forum who would rather you didn't mention the possibility of rain!

Apparently Vergers is very confident of Barazi's chance in qualifying if it rains. He was predicting a second row spot on the grid. I would imagine it will definitely hamper the diesels. Putting down that torque in the wet must be a nightmare!

I would imagine that it comes down to the degree of rain - if there is standing water then expect the GT cars to come to the fore and start forcing there way past some of the protos!!!

It would be nice to see another maclaren F1 year with a GT winning but, that year I saw less actual racing than any other, we were either trying to get dry or watching clouds of spray with the odd slow moving car just visible.
A good result but I think I prefer to enjoy watching cars pushed to the limits and plenty of cars still in the race on Sunday. A few showers are good but really wet conditions spoil the event.

Jeez, and I just watched Speed Tribe again. Those Bentleys and Lolas twitching under braking...

Maybe E. Collard is one of the best drivers, in 2005 (‘wet’ LMES season) he drove really well when rained, always better than J. C. Boullion…and I think Shimoda is good too, he set the fastest lap at Spa 1000km 05, drove better than his team mates (one time LM winner J. Nielsen and C. Elgaard) and did regularly better lap times than Pescarolo, Audi-Oreca, or Jim Gainer-Dome drivers.

If Shimoda is just very very good, than Manu Collard is just absolutely brilliant. He will be a force to reckon with if it rains, because Collard is one of the most brilliant drivers with respect to adaptability; a pace-setter instantly in all cars he drives.

The Audi old boys will be strong in the rain, of course (though perhaps Dindo is prone to overdrive?). The young guns? Not so much. Ekstrom has rallied though, so he should perform well with reduced grip.

Peugeot drivers? Lamy and particularly Sarrazin (again, rally experience there) should be strong in the wet.

Too bad one X. Pompidou isn't in the race this year! Overtaking protos under braking in an old 911 GT3-R at Silverstone in the LMES showed definite rain skill.

Well, I dated someone once who was very good in the wet!

But I think you meant who is good driving on the wet. Well, Senna was! But he is not around anymore...

Well we've all seen what happens to Porsche's pace in the rain (particularly Mugello last year, and Bucharest this year) so that will be interesting. Vergers seems very confident he can do a bit of giant slaying should it rain...

Kirkaldy or Vergers or Minassian.
However, i'd say Peter Kox is fast be it wet dry or flaming really.
He seems to be making the Aston look very good right now, dry or wet, so a wet race and we could see an Aston GT1 win?

There was this one driver in a black McLaren in 1995 who was pretty quick. Seeing him in the nr10 Zytek would be great (just listening some wild speculation on RLM).

Shimoda: Johansson: Lehto - Could there be a more explosive trio!

No no, I wouldn't look that far for the 3rd driver in the No.10.....im sure the announcement will come soon.....from what I hear he has had plenty of experience driving quick protos in the wet at Le Mans though.........
