Timing strut

I'm sure I read something (probably in MSNow) about new dimensions for struts - but the BB is still the same. Did the new reg get binned?
TIA

Relying on my rather sketchy recollections I think it is due in 2009?

Excellent, thanks both. Means I just need a new bit of gaffa tape and don't have to cut up a fresh piece of ally...

Could someone clarify the possible changes as I need to make one up and I might as well make it so it's eligible beyond 2009, if possible. Thanks

TIMELORD should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The Summer 2007 issue of Motorsports Now! stated that from 1st Jan 2009 the minimum vertical height of the strut would be 270mm rather than 254mm (the depth remained at 51mm). However, looking at I.67 of this year's Blue Book, this seems not to have changed after all. The MSNow! article did carry the caveat, "The Timekeeping Advisory Panel would appear to endorse this change however formal approval will be sought from their next meeting." I can only imagine that it was decided against for some reason.

The 2009 Blue Book entry regarding Timing Struts (I.67) reads: "Where timing is activated by a light beam, the vehicles will be fitted at the front with a vertical timing strut, minimum vertical height 254mm, the bottom of which shall be not less than 180mm and no more than 200mm from the ground. The strut will be in matt black on both sides, over its total area, which shall be not less than 254mm by 51mm. No other, or further forward, part of the vehicle may interrupt these dimensions or actuate the timing."

It's always best to check the colour coding of the BB changes in Motorsports Now, some of them are canon, some are proposed and some are rejected. I wonder if that is the case with this?

I gather that the proposed change has been shelved permanently since it was actually only one timekeeper who was having difficulty with the standard strut sizes.

don't think I've ever seen one made for sale, they're usually fabricated from ally sheet. Well 'fabricated' sounds posh, but in paddock after shunt I've also seen them made from cardboard, bits of tin can, and anything else that you can scrounge from a rubbish bin. Just remember to carry a roll of black tape...
