Following a Britcar 24 Hour at Silverstone, a driver asked if anyone had pictures of his car number 97, I sent him this image explaining that I had missed 97, but had one of number 7.
I had a reply explaining that it was 97 but the 9 was hidden following a brush with another car. Sense of humour shortage? |

Nice selection, as usual, Bob. Particularly post 5702. Is car no. 7 the Ferguson 4wd F1?
Car no. 30 in post 5701 looks like an early sprite bonnet grafted on to a later sprite or midget. |

That is the Ferguson and that is Whizzo driving it, Stirling Moss won at Oulton Park with it and it, technically at least did enter an F1 Grand Prix, but like the Aston Martin GP car, arrived just as engines went to the rear, and everything changed. It featured four wheel drive, Gordon.

When I saw the drive shaft at the front I thought of the Ferguson car. Like Gordon I never saw it race but remember it more from it's hill climb days.
What is cat no. 19 in the same post? |

Car number nineteen is the Lister Jaguar 'Monzanapolis' built for the 1958 'Race of Two Worlds' at Monza. Prepared and driven by Rod Jolley it is a regular competitor at both Goodwood and also HGPCA races.

It is time consuming constantly browsing albums for pictures to post, so here are the left overs from the last trawl.

Certainly was... very pleasant to return from a weekend away and find.
Inspired me to post a few piccies for your breakfast time. The first pic with the Mini and the Cortina.... the Mini is driven by Ted Brewster , who makes our Bauble a young 'un. Ted is 86 years young and still loads his car up on the trailer and he and wife Margaret are at all the major meetings. He does all the maintenance himself still. He can still do well in class (2nd over the weekend after being the fastest Mini qualifier). Our club had its 40th anniversary this year and Ted was a founder member, but started racing Minis back in the early sixties. Now he has his son and Grandson all racing at PI over the weekend. He aimed to retire from driving at 70, but Margaret decided quickly he was a pain in the A$$ when he wasnt playing with his car and unbeknown to send entered him for a race. He tried to retire again at 80... that lasted 3 months. |

A few more.....
Start off with one of those Elfin monsters. The 2nd pic, the white #2 car is quite unique, being the RT2 Ralt built for Toleman and used by Brian Henton in F2 back in the day (1979), then in 1980 sold to Genoa Racing in the States where it was converted to Can Am spec and raced successfully over the pond(still with the Hart 420R engine). It came to Aus c 2000. The plan now / longer term is to return the car to its original F2 configuration. The 3rd pic is a Nota Major (An Aussie 'special' from 1960) Pic #4 we have another Elfin. The second car obviously a Lola Mk1 and followed by the MG Regah Special. The #24 is a Mac Healey. Pic #5 (car #30) is another Aussie Special.... the TS Special.. originally built by the Styles Brothers in Western Australia- Rod Styles was an instructor at the old Carlisle Technical College in Perth, for Syd Taylor. The car was rebuilt in 1952 taking on the appearance it has now. It is fitted with a highly modified 6 cylinder GMC truck engine - The MG Special is Supercharged and has a long Aussie history... David Harvey recorded fourth fastest time and placed second on handicap with this car in the 1950 Australian Grand Prix. Last edited by E.B; 15 Mar 2022 at 04:43. Reason: Added a few notes re the cars in case anyone was interested. |

Re the Ralt referred to above here is a static shot of the car just for info:
Also a couple of random non racing shots of other things you might not have seen oop North. The Red Sports car is an Aussie road car special from the mid 1980's called the Giocattolo Group B. I was actually driven in one back in the day and always wanted one. Weighed under 1100 kgs and went like stuff off a shovel. Alfa Sud body with a mid mounted Holden Group A V8. Sadly the project went bankrupt in a sad tale of original plans getting interfered with. It was originally planned to have a mid mounted Alfa V6. Details on the history, the build, and the oily bits used here https://www.whichcar.com.au/features...b-holden-vl-v8 Also one for the Only in Aus file... A 1954 Humber Super-Snipe "Ute". See a number of Super Snipe saloons, but I have never seen a Ute / Utility version before. Anyone seen one in the UK? I imagine its a local Aus. conversion back in the day for someone (well to do) needing something to go to Church in on Sunday and take the pigs to market in on Monday.... and a 'Ute' with a Holden badge didnt do it for them. And finally another Aussie only oddity, the Zeta Utility.... Zeta built cars in Aus in the mid sixties. The company that manufactured them were actually a manufacturer of cement mixers and washing machines. Powered by a 324cc Villiers engine and were front wheel drive. I think they only made 8 utilities, but they made a Sports car version and also a saloon. Learn about the Sports car here: https://www.whichcar.com.au/features...rn-zeta-sports Sorry about the non Racing stuff, but threw them in for something different. Bob will probably put me on the naughty step for the week. Last edited by E.B; 15 Mar 2022 at 05:27. |

No worries digger, I'm as jolly as a Swagman, and waltzing like a right Matilda, the only rule I set right from the start was fifties only stuff, a rule I continue to flout regularly.
Nice pics, although there is a lot of rubbish in there. |

Thanks a lot EB, quite interesting. I remember there's a Sud at Arese with a V6.
