MGB GT Sebring
Just to add another dimension to this discussion, and to potentially re-write a bit of history, I am attaching a photo of another MGB GT that was at Sebring in the late '60s. It was even entered as a 'reserve' car in 1969, ran in 1970, and I consider it to be a BMC Comps-built car! Let the controversy flow!!

That's a piucture of Bob Kilpatrick's MGB in '70, from what I can tell it ran with a 1798cc engine and was built by Herrington Motor's in NY.
BMC Comps did enter a reserve car in '69 for the RMO, MBL and LBL drivers to use in pre-race practice, it never started the race. Bob Kilpatrick's car was also there in '69 carrying the number #89 but it didnt start either. |

You are correct Neil, that was Bob's 1970 ride, entered by Herrington Motors. Previously, the car was blue. I am gathering info on it's original construction which I am confident will point to it as being a genuine BMC Comps built car. Stand by for further details. As you may know, one of the wheels came adrift when Bob was under full song, and the car performed a rather acrobatic roll-over on lap 7, all shown on ABC TV Wide World of Sports. Bob did the honourable thing when he exited the car, heaving his helmet down the road! Ralph

You're no fun Terry, I mean, c'mon, who'd go to Texas in the '80s and look at buying ex-works Le Mans MGBs??!!

Errrrr,no wait a minuit, it'll come back to me.
I do remember getting a few call's asking where the battery should be on ex-works cars, the caller told me that he'd thought he'd found the original, unfortunately though,he withheld his name. Having performed rather a lot of work on BMO for the present owner,I had access to the original photographic record of its first restoration performed in the US,the photos showed that at some stage in its life, the body colour was Island Blue. This had been applied over the Tartan Red factory finish,it was obvious from the photos that the whole body outter panels were alloy.Perhaps it was because of this body colour change that the car remained "lost" for the period it was? |

One can only assume that it is fitted with the original 2004cc engine?

... but the auction blurb states "The assembly of the car was completed by renowned specialist MG Motorsport "
as I read it, it is a faithful copy built on a road car, presumably they persuaded BL Heritage to press another set of ally panels... |

Hmm,
Doesn't matter because I looked again this morning and it isn't there anymore. In fact there's not much of interest in the auction TBH. |

Lol,
There were only 47 items this morning. Methinks my ISP is messing me about. Did you read that off the link on the MGCC forum? |

If that makes the top of the estimate of 25k,thats remarkable value for what it is,just a shame there's nowhere to race it apart from MGCC events. It would make a hell of a roadcar though. |

25k is really good value if it's exactly how it's described.
Any chance of getting an entry in the Eau Rouge Trophy with a car like this? |

It might be possible but other than that, as Terry says it is limited. What about Youngtimer at Nurburgring?
