What on earth was Christian playing at, running across the track while cars going 200 mph were bearing down on him - and then saying that the Stewards shouldn't fine him but "concentrate on the racing"? Is this man playing with all his cards? Did he think for a millisecond that one of the cars out there had no brakes?
Is he going to come back tomorrow when it's an airport again and cross in front of 747s? CHRISTIAN YOU FOOL, YOU COULD HAVE KILLED YOURSELF AND OTHERS! WHAT ON EARTH WERE YOU THINKING? |

I think i can remember him doing a similar thing at Road America a while ago (1996?). It seems as though he wants to become a road kill....

Christian said he knew that he had about 30 seconds to cross the track between the last car passing and the next one coming around. I didn't actually see him crossing due to our British Eurosports "extensive coverage" only covering about 10 laps of the race.
I don't know what the rule is for Indycars but presume its the same as in F1, ie, you can cross if and only if you are given the go-ahead by a marshall. From what Christian said, he thought it was safe but he hadn't been given the all clear to cross. |

Perhaps CART should institute a program of crossing guards.

Or those "invisible fence" things and put the collars on the pilotes.

This is not a rare thing. Pilots seem to do this a lot without a signal. They see where the pitlane is, can't hear a thing, so they think that they are clear. I have seen a ton of pilotes do it at various tracks, and I don't think that any of them got fined. Smart drivers pull over on the side of the track that the paddock is on. Paul Tracy had his problem in the same place, and picked a much smarter place to pull it over.

Has a pilot in Cart or F1 ever become roadkill? I know Marshalls have, such as the incident at Kyalami. |

I believe a marshal tripped and was hit by Willy T Ribbs at Vancouver (in 92?).

You'd think their lives (meaning the pilotes) are dangerous enough without going out of their way to make it worse.
