Is it also full of adverts for rather expensive watches like many of the other car magazines - I'm not sure that I fall in the expected demographic!

Well I certainly don’t!

I haven’t dared read it yet just in case I leave smudgy finger marks on the pages. Maybe need a pair of those white gloves you see people wearing when handling jewellery.....

Edit- from a half page write-up of a ‘bargain’ watch (£1100).... ‘We’re not going to fill Magneto with watches’. TBF it is the only timepiece mention (and no ads), and there is a very lengthy article about Zagato, which suits me.....

Apparently the V16 BRM engine used 4 magnetos (as no doubt did other multi-cylinder engines), but the ignition lead quality was so poor that the spark quite often jumped and went to the wrong cylinder, leading to misfires. Now sorted with modern ignition leads- Few Years too late.....

Guess where I read that?

If you have Amazon Prime - the Grand Tour series 3, episode 5 - nice little tribute to Jim Clark including stills, footage and mechanic interviews.

If you want to avoid the rest of the programme - wind it on to 36mins (it lasts for about 20 minutes).

‘fast forward is my friend’..... I haven’t got prime, but when FE is on the Beeb red button, jumping through the first 30+ min waffle is so useful!

Talking of FE I see the new Jaguar electric one make series (Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY) had their first round last night (for me)

I recorded it but have yet to watch it. It classifies itself as "the main support series to the ABB FIA Formula E Championship."

https://www.fiaformulae.com/en/champ...aguar-e-trophy

I dont recall watching much one make racing since the wonderful BMW Procar days!

E.B you won't call me a great fan of Formula E, looks like a boring go-kart lawn mover engine session. I'm a petrol head they are no wirings in my brain to appreciate this kind of stuff.
The Procar days were fabulous and I love the M Bimmer. Not the wheels but if someone offers me one I'll fix that!

I see its an FIA championship. Are we allowed to have the driver's name on the window now? Per regulation maximum size is fixed at 10x40 centimeters (3.93x15.75)… I know my next job could be located near a famous lake!

Havent a clue of those electric things but still have one question: do they replace the conrods with… lightning rods?

Im with you on the Formula E / Formula Milkfloat stuff... its all a bit like a video game with all these special 'attack' modes, activation zones etc. (none give them decent noise though) Way too complicated for my simple mind.

At least they can now do a full race without needing a spare car!

2 weeks until we get 'proper' racing going here, when the V8 Supercars get going in Adelaide. And then Phillip Island Historic in early March.

Marmite comes to mind!

Guess I could be classified under the ‘petrol head’ title, but still find FE interesting and watchable. Junk the stoopid fan boost though!

I’ll be catching up with latest round on iPlayer. That’s the best thing, there’s nobody forcing us to watch E or anything else- we all have freedom of choice!

I don't know why it is but I cannot get interested in FE at all despite having a keen interest in just about all forms/disciplines of motorsport over the years possibly with the exception of drag racing. 2 or 3 years colleagues who have been motor racing pals for years seem to find it exciting to watch but I find it leaves stone cold dumb, whether it's the lack of sound from an internal combustion engine, the ridiculous looking bodywork appendages(to me at least) or the gimmickry nature of the format I'm unsure but in any event I find it plain dull. I detest having anything rammed down my throat and much as I can understand the necessity for a switch from fossil fuels, it just seems to me that we are being dragged kicking and screaming into an era of electric boredom in motor racing. Thankfully, FF1600 is still strong along with the many other classic and historic racing formats.
