trailer wanted

Hi not having much luck on ebay etc finding a sensible sized trailer for my Fiesta. Yes I know its the wrong time of year for this, but need a twin axle in good condition that will squeeze in my large single garage.

Anyone know of something useful for sale?

How much can you spend?

To be honest though, generally speaking the only small trailers that will fit in garages are single axle. Why do you want a twin for a Fiesta?

£1500. Single axle's dont usually have a high enough payload - especially when the race car is loaded up with spares and tools. Twin axles are more stable and nicer to tow as well.

New trailers do exist that will fit through my 7'6" door but £2k plus VAT is silly money i think!

Trailers tend to hold their residual values quite well unless you are buying something quite ancient. Try looking round at different manufacturers as deals are there to be done.

Many purpose built car transportes will tend to make the most of the maximum allowable legal width, which was, until recently, 7' 6" - so theyre not going to fit through your door.

So, you may be better going for one with the wheels under the deck - these are often narrower overall but with no loss of load deck space. They're not always advertised as car transporters though, so perhaps widen your search.

Some people don't like them and claim they're top heavy so therefore unstable, but I've used many different types over the years (not just for race cars) and I've never had a problem. I think ensuring it's loaded correctly and properly balanced is far more influential on how it behaves than whether or not the wheels are underneath. Of course, a lot does depend on what you're towing it with too.

Just my ten bob's worth!

Try Woodford - bought mine from them as it was the only one in the country that was single axle and wide enough to fit my Kitten. Very pleasant doing business with them and well happy with the trailer, especially towing it! £1500 new.

For reference, mine is a WB-030 (http://www.woodfordtrailers.com/trailersa_028.htm) and I reckon its easy long enough for a Fiesta

I'll have a look and measure up of a 4 wheel trailer next to my workshop tomorrow, I know the guy wanted to sell it as it wasn't wide enough for his needs.

Thanks for that, was looking at Woodford if I had to buy new, but was looking at the lightweight models. Interesting that the widebody has a wider bed but narrower overall, hmm food for though! How are the built in ramps like to use?

Hello Dom,

I have a barely used Brian James Minno that I have been considering moving on recently - simply not getting any use at the moment. It is a twin axle trailer complete with tire rack and storage box.

Might fit your Fiesta, depending on it's age and width. To give you an idea, it has been used to transport a narrow track Caterham and a 1980's Formula Ford.

Definitely in your budget. PM me if interested.

Yep that is why I went for the widebody - although even on a 6'6" wide trailer I only have 2mm clearance either side...

The ramps are really easy to use, a V-shaped sprung bit of ally keeps them in place and stops them rattling around. Also handy to stop pikeys nicking them as they are firmly attached to the trailer!

Try the monoposto forum. I know there is a 4 wheel Brian James for sale on there. Its boxed but the sides may be removed.
