Autosprout Top 50 Drivers 2003: Tom K - 31st
I was reading this week's Autosport in ASDA just now, and their headline is "Top Fifty Drivers of 2003".
Tom kristensen is Top Sportscar Driver and in 31st Place Overall (Down 8 (!) Places from 2002). If Five Consequtive Le Mans Victories and leading Bentley to their first LM win since the '20s is not enough to improve his ranking then I don't know what is. |

Ridiculous.
I suppose every F1 driver who drove last season is above him? |

So that's a guy who raced three times in 2003, won all three and one of them a historic victory in one of the world's biggest races into the bargain, being beaten in this list by amongst others the bloke who finished 15th in the F1 World Championship, yep that makes sense!!

Well, I don't have a subsription to Autosport, so I have not viewed the list. But this sounds pretty typical. Obvsioualy the only cars that take any skill to drive are the technical masterpieces known as Forumla 1 cars. Can somebody post the top 10 or something? Tom K. definitely got left out on this deal. Who decides the list, journalists?

Did Marco Werner make the list? This guy impressed me this year. First year in the prototype ranks. First year in the ALMS. Every track was a new track for him and he was on the pace. Picked up the drivers title along with Biela and helped his team win the team title. Got poles at Trois-Rivieras (and fastest lap), Road America and Petit. He did well at Le Mans (was that his first?) for Team Goh as well.

That's outrageous! Quite an injustice. There are a number of talented drivers in the sportscar ranks these days. And thanks for the info Dunlop.

He may not have been "leader", but he was on what was billed as the "German" squad. Maybe the rest of the world views Austria as being part of Germany.

Whilst I agree Tom K is a great driver - so is Bjorn Wirdheim, he won this years International F3000 championship in a dominant fashion - beating lots of other top International drivers. Okay Tom K was PART of the winning car and yes he did have a big part to play in Bentley winning LM this year - but lets face it, the oppostion wasnt there this year at LM in comparissan to previous years, so yeah hes won THE big race of the year, but other than LM and the Spa 1000km and a couple of other selected events how many events did he actually race in this year?
Just my 2 cents. |
