Must admit that I had the same thought. The State Govt kicked in (from memory) $70mill or something like that to TB, plus of course the Shahin's would have a lot of political clout in SA - and both these things could have influenced the (illogical) decision to can the 500.
Like others, I always have a little scepticism about political promises, particularly before & after elections but I must say that the new Premier in SA does seem to be much more of a straight shooter than many other pollies.
Hopefully we see the 500 back soon - large amount of miracles to make happen if it's going to run this year but if all are willing, could be full steam ahead.
No doubt in some ways the Shahins won't be keen on it happening again - although it was there when TB was planned so no doubt there's a business plan in existence on how to fit in with the 500 and as well as a challenge, the 500 presents opportunities for TB to promote itself.
