Maybe the extra power was not that helpful in the wet when it might lead to wheel spin?

It can only be deployed with full traction.

True, but I don’t know if when the hybrid power comes in it has a curve or it’s just a big lump of power. If it’s a lumpy power delivery it might spin the wheels then stop if it can only be deployed with full traction?

What happens in a scenario of deployment at the point of full traction but the hybrid element causes the wheels to spin up?

Same as last year, run like a four car team, just crews split to their respective cars etc.

Great racing across all 3 rounds once again - the wet always makes thing interesting though.

Does anyone else feel Chilton is now past it? Only a few years back (2018) he was challenging for the title - now he is struggling to stay in the points. While there was a question mark around the team for last year, he has been in decent cars every year but sadly seems to be going backwards.

Exactly my feeling when I saw him dropping like a rock from the lead... Actually, I'm not sure what happened with his car, maybe his lack of pace was caused by that? No idea but, anyway, it's not really the same Chilton as just a few years ago. Ingram is one of title favourites this year, Lloyd consistently inside Top 10, while Chilton still somehow invisible. Car can't be an excuse every time.

Chilton is a mid-pack driver, no better or worse than a lot of other drivers out there. Potential podium finisher or reverse grid race winner if things go his way. I assume that he had mechanical or tyre issues in the final race which contributed to him falling backwards pretty badly.

I had assumed that the switch back to FWD would suit him this season.

I was there in person and thought there were a few less people than normal but not to a massive degree - certainly the pitlane walkabout was the busiest I've seen it with the queue halfway up the hill to Druids (I didn't go in for the scrum).

The weather forecast was pretty good when I left home (showers until 8 then sunny intervals all day, dry and warm). By the time I got to Brands the forecast was overcast all day and rain. Not ideal!

The big unknown is the Hybrid We dont know when it is working correctly or not A mate of mine who works for a team in a support series heard some drivers had boost when they shouldn't and some had none. It seemed odd that suddenly Crees was right in it when others such as Camish and Sutton were nowhere. Cook fast Plato nowhere Is it all as it seems?

I think he had a puncture - pitted to get that changed and then dropped it on his own at Clearways (I was watching the last race from Clearways and there was nobody near him when he threw it in the gravel).

It's still way too early to say too much, especially as the weather yesterday really changed what would have happened had it been a continuation from Saturday.

One thing I'll say is that I don't think the current Hybrid System is a very effective balance of power. It had little to no effect at all yesterday. Obviously, wet conditions caused the old Ballast System to have less of an effect than in the dry, but even in perfect conditions, the Hybrid System needs a lot of tweaking to be as effective as the Ballast was.

The M-Sport Engine is also way off the pace I think. Cook shone due to the weather, but if that car had the Honda engine, I think he'd have had a much stronger Donington and sailed to pole at Brands Hatch.

Ingram is always going to be there or thereabouts as he's consistent in a strong all-round package. Should be strong at Thruxton too, especially if the lack of effect of the Hybrid Penalty system continues. Cook is a Thruxton specialist and you'd put money on him winning at least one race there if he had the Honda engine underneath him, so it will be interesting to see how he goes with the M-Sport engine.

For all the talk of Sutton being nowhere, he's 3rd in the Championship, above Hill, Turkington, Shedden, Butcher, Cammish, Lloyd and the Ciceley BMW's, all of whom seem to have taken more Plaudits than Sutton. Sure, he's never going to have the same level of dominance as in a RWD car set up in the way that suits him, but he's never going to be far away.....

Plato has been desperately unlucky and has gone far better than his 10 results have suggested. He'll be gutted to finally get into a Honda, only for it not to have a Honda engine, but still doing OK. A puncture spoiled what would have been surely at least 3 top 10 finishes at Donington. Mechanical failure put him 22nd on the grid yesterday, and after being ran out wide at the first corner to put him even further down the order, he recovered well. Then in race 2 he climbed up to 11th before coming off worse in a 4 car battle and ended up finishing 13th, when he would have been 12th at worst, which would have put him on pole for race 3, for tiny margins between a potential brilliant result and being stuck down in the pack and making an error for a DNF in Race 3. With better luck, he would have been somewhere between Butcher and Thompson in the standings now, comfortably, so he's doing ok and has been very unlucky for mee.

Collard is another unlucky driver. Great pace, and he is still learning in a a FWD BTCC car, but mechanical failures and small errors have left him on one point, when again he should at least be somewhere between Rowbottom and Plato in the current standings.

Chilton isn't far off where I'd expect. Yes, he's better than his standings suggest, but it's still a new car to him, and when he's the 3rd best driver in the team behind two very, very good drivers, it can't be easy. I hope he improves, but he's never going to be a contender as things stand, just a decent midfield driver.

There doesn't seem to be much difference between the BTC Honda and the Dynamics Honda - they seem to be performing about as you'd expect - Cook and Shedden looking quickest, then Rowbottom and Plato with Edwards bringing up the rear.

Agreed, people seem to suggest he's not doing very well but he's picking up points steadily and as you say is above some of those that have been getting rave reviews for their performances.

That's a very generous assessment - look at it another way, he damaged his car (damper failure - smacking kerbs too hard?) that resulted in a bad grid slot, made a mistake at the start of the first race and ran wide losing places, made some progress in race 2 then binned it on his own in race 3. A pretty poor weekend really. Has to be said I expected more from him in that car - maybe he'll pick up once he's got a few more miles under his belt in it.

Can I just go back to this point about the hybrid only being able to be deployed at "full traction", what critera is used to determine if "full traction" has been achieved? Wheel slip sensor? A simple "above a certain speed" threshold?
