Not sure I see it this way. McLaren is actually on the rise again in f1. The indy debacle I grant you, yes, but hey, now we get them in indycar full time. Hopefully it eventually leads to an actual addition to the grid rather than partnering with an existing team, although ericsonn to ganassi is one more car on the grid now.

While Hinch is good, I don't think he's top shelf,to the point that he had to retained. And he should be able to latch on somewhere.

Yeah, what does this mean in terms of his team? Will his team be the same? And since he never funds any of this out of his own pocket, if he indycar doesn't prove to be a money maker, what does he do with the series? (This does mean he effectively owns the series, right?) It's all very interesting, and I'm not worried, but lot of curiosity.

Some of the answers are in this article but as for the series, potentially not being a money maker, is one reason for having a title sponsor like NTT on board. However, if the series turned out to be a total failure, following this purchase, who knows, the end of AOWR? Somehow I doubt that will happen

The Team Principal is Andreas Seidl and since he started working with the team in May this year, their fortunes have turned round.

They flat out screwed the guy, waited until there were no options, and cut him loose. One less competitor, amirite? I say this as a McLaren F1 fan, that whole situation was dirty.

Maybe in the longer term, but Penske said that (for now) he's happy with the people running the series. One thing Penske did mention was definitely keeping the NASCAR race at Indy. He also said this:

What are the odds that Tony George starts up an IndyCar team again? He has experience with his time running Vision Racing in the 2000's. But now, surely he must have more free time than ever since handing off the keys to his castle to Roger.

There's nothing to stop him if he wants to.

Meanwhile, Meyer Shank Racing will compete in a full season in 2020, with Andretti Autosport as technical partner and Jack Harvey driving.

He wasn't all that successful running that team as I recall so I cannot see the point in him doing that now. He needs to go away and move on with new endeavors elsewhere.

I'm sure in 1991 no one thought this is the way it would end up with Penske owning the series AND the Speedway. One has to ask in the end what all that mess was all about. But oh well, things move on. I'll be interested to see what changes Penske is going to have moving forward. I don't expect a lot next year but the year after, yes.

Indycars seems to have moved on from the split and now it’s popularity is at a good level. Certainly seems it’s getting better, unlike NASCAR, which is in decline

Being bought out by one of CART's founders is quite ironic. It's also ironic that Team Penske was the first major CART team to jump ship from CART to the IRL, in 2002, having won the Driver's Championship the previous two years with Gil de Ferran.

Oh McLaren, I get the desire for the marketing but really? Telling RM to stop using SPAM to refer to the team, that's just sad and from now on they will only be spam for all of time.

RM: Well I didn’t think of SPAM (that was a reader) and McLaren politely asked me to stop using it, which I did. But I really don’t have anything memorable to tell you. From his mailbag this morning on Racer.
